Interesting Design
I bought this crossbow because I was interesting in the cocking mechanism and its reported ease of use.The crossbow was delivered quickly, assembly was very simple just one bolt and a few minutes with an allen wrench (provided). The effort required to cock the crossbow is very slight. The system provides plenty of mechanical advantage, pulling the cable right into the latch. The provided open sights are cheaply made and do not adjust well for windage. Elevation adjustments are more positively made. The crossbow shoots the provided plastic bolts with authority. The bolts however are not of the most durable construction. I broke one into several pieces after firing it into a target. I bought some aluminum bolts that promise greater durability. This bow doesn't meet my states requirements for hunting, but that is not what it is intended for. It is designed for back yard plinking with easy cocking (that is not to say that at close range, a bolt fired from this weapon would not be destructive to life. All such weapons must be treated with the utmost respect and care toward others in the path of the bolt). With this in mind I feel it is well worth the price.I look forward to many engagements with paper targets of squirrels and rabbits.

Fantastic.
With all the bad reviews my standards were pretty low for this item, but now that it is in my possession i honestly don't get the bad reviews at all! This crossbow is very powerful. Everything about this is perfect! Listen to me, if you are taking this crossbow for consideration, Get it! Everyone who wrote a bad review probably didn't assemble it write, it does now come with instructions so I just looked up a video on how to assemble it. So if I were you I would do the same. This crossbow is just incredible. Amazing. Get it. I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. It comes with more than enough accessories. The fishing lines or what ever don't fit, so if you're planning on going fishing or what ever i suggest you buy some that will go with this item. And for those wondering about the video or anyone struggling to assemble it here is the video I used so i really recommend watching it. And bottom line, if you are looking into getting a nice well priced crossbow this is the one! And I've seen no sign of the crossbow breaking at all. Here's the link for the video v[...]

disapointed
i bought this little crossbow just for fun, and maybe to teach the nieces and nephew about shooting and safe weapons handling when they are ready.before the first time that i shot the thing i noticed that the rear open site was cheaply made, after a few shots i gave up on the idea of using open sites due to the fact that every shot would change zero. so if you get it just remove the rear site and go all scope. it did preform fairly well once i got the little 4x20 air gun scope zeroed.when i got done shooting it for the first time i dissembled it for storage in its original boxleaving the scope on it in hopes of not having to re-zero it, alas it was a moot point, as when i took it out of the box two weeks later the prod (bow part) had a crack right down the middle and would not be terably safe to atempt to shoot.i'll try to track down a new prod if the price is right.another minor gripe. on the right hand side there is inlayed a small what i would call a "that-a-way" compass. these uesualy have a small amount of liquid inside, however this one was dry, and pointed no where near north. they arnt realy good for navigation at the best of times and in this instance completly useless.i didnt expect much when i ordered, but even those low expectations were optimistic

Five Sars Now / One Star Later....
NC Star Crossbow `Rifle' with Scope (CS):Before you spend $500 to see if you might like crossbow archery, this NC is an inexpensive trial, but don't expect it to last. On the plus side the leaf (bow) is already strung. Yes, this is a big deal. Because it uses pulleys, it is also easy to cock. Most other crossbows do not offer these advantages.[WARNING: If you are NOVICE and purchase a NON-STRUNG bow or crossbow of any kind, go to an archery range and pay them to lace it up. An eye or a finger is a precious thing to loose.]Instead of putting your foot in a cocking hoop and pulling with all your might on a cocking rope you probably won't be able to string properly, like on most other crossbows, with the SA you just release the cocking lock (where the trigger would be on a rifle), place the end of the stock against your hip and cock it like a break barrel air gun. My 4'-10"/95# wife can do this.No here is the bad news: The right side cocking arm is likely to fracture due to a manufacturing defect after a few hundred fires. This will render the unit useless. A replacement rod is not available in the United States. The included scope is inferior. If your are lucky and your crossbow does last, consider replacing the O.E.M. scope with a fair quality 4x32mm BB Gun/Air Rifle unit. The mounting rings on your nes scope will need to accommodate the 3/8" groves on the NC. If the replacement scope rings are for a 1" rail, it will not fit.Unless you have an alternate use for an aftermarket scope, I do not recommend replacement, because your SA will probably not last. For Mother's Day I bought a quality 4x32 scope for my sweetie. The day after, her SA died. :(The included Compass (embedded in the stock) is cuite but unless. This is not a major issue. However, LONGEVITY is. If you never owed a crossbow, this SA is a good initial alternative to, "I laughed; I cried and kissed $1,000 good-bye," to purchasing something you will never use but just can bring yourself to `garage sale'. : )"You can't always get what you wantBut if you try, sometimes well you might findYou get what you need." ~ Mick Jagger, / Keith Richards
