Does what it says on the tin
Used it on my gas bbq for rotisserie beef. I had to make a little bracket so it would sit neatly on the flavourizer bars (Outback bars slope) but did the job perfectly. Very sturdy

Wish I had a smoker but I do not. I really love my napoleon prestige bbq and with Crave Tool smoker box... I can get a little smoke on my food. My fav thing to cook is a turkey on the rotisserie, smoker filled will apple wood chips... low and slow.

Great quality and looks like it will hold up well. So far, I've used it only one time, but it was much better than the aluminum foil bag method, and used far less wood to provide the smoke. I use it on a Weber Spirit 2 burner gas grill. Remove one grill grate. Place box directly on the heat bar. I use a foil contraption to create a level base for the smoke box (but not so its insulated from the heat) so it can sit along the length of the burner heat bar. Using damp chips does slow things down a bit in the smoke department, but not badly for a long cook time. Took close to 45 minutes to get smoke going, with damp chips... once smoke is going this box puts out just the right amount of smoke. No big billows, but can definitely smell it. I think a full box of chips would have lasted for a couple of hours... I was able to save some unburned chips out of it in this run. I use a pan of water in the grill as a heat sink, and run temps between 225 and 250 deg. To jump start the smoke in a gas grill I recommend starting a little hot (275 deg) and then backing down to your desired slow cook temp once you have smoke. 3 pork ribs came out perfect after a couple of hours... very smoky flavor. Design also makes it easy to reload... just don't put it under anything - flip the top oen and throw in some more chips!

This product appears to be high quality and well made, but it didn't work well for me. I will try it again with smaller wood chips, but overall it just didn't get hot enough to make the chips smoke. I've used similar designs before and think this one would benefit by at least a couple of holes in the side or bottom to promote airflow. Edit: I used this product again with smaller wood chips and a much longer cook time (about 1 hour). It worked perfectly well, producing lots of smoke and completely burning all of the chips. Once more used on a short cook with wood chips (instead of chunks) and it performed very well. My initial negative impression of this product was due to my own errors.

My new Weber Genesis gas grill was just delivered this morning from Lowe's and I've been itching to try it out. After a burn off and seasoning the grates and cook chamber with bacon, it was time to get down to my first cooking. Nothing special, just a few pre-formed burger patties. To add a little outdoor flavor, I also decided to try out my new Cave Tools smoker box. I used a handful of dry apple chips that filled the smoker box less than halfway. Cranked up the grill, put the smoker box in the front left corner on top of the Flavorizer bars and sat back to wait for the smoke to appear. It didn't take long to see the first wisps of smoke rising. I dropped the seasoned and still frozen burger patties on the grates, closed the lid and began the odyssey. I'm here to report the burgers were delicious. The grill worked perfectly (as expected) and the Cave Tools smoker box was impressive. The chips started smoking pretty quickly and never caught fire. That's really all that's you can ask for from a simple tool like this--it works! I've used a couple of those cast iron boxes before and I was less impressed. If the chips didn't burn up immediately they usually didn't smolder either. And the cast iron boxes always turned red and crusty with rust in short order. I've also used foil pouches that failed miserably to ever produce even a tiny wisp of smoke. I pretty much had given up ever getting a wood smoke flavor from a gas grill until now. Finally, since other reviewers have questioned the honesty of the positive reviews posted here, I would further like to report that I have not in any way been compensated for this review. Nobody paid me or even offered indirect encouragement. I was not provided with any free merchandise. No compensation whatsoever. None. Not a damn penny. Not that I can't be bought, it's just that no one is apparently interested. :-) Give this thing a try and see for yourself.
