Canon LP1222 Soft Lens Pouch for EF 200mm f2.8L II Lens

I don't know why the description for this product shows it is only compatible with the EF 200 lens; my Canon EF 70-300mm lens came with a booklet that listed this part number as the recommended protective case. That being said, I really wanted something to put my Canon EF 70-300mm lens in and feel like it was well protected. This is a soft pouch with a tough leather and (padded) bottom as described; however, I must admit when I opened the box I was a bit surprised.First, the soft exterior is a lot thinner than I expected. While it feels nice and will definitely keep the dust out and protect the lens from scratches, it seems like the material could easily be torn. Maybe it's just that I was expecting something a little more substantial considering the price. Nontheless, it is doing the job so far.Second, the padded bottom of the pouch... well, I guess I thought it would fit the lens more snugly. I wasn't expecting a tight fit but there may be a good three-quarters of an inch or more of diameter than needed. While the leather bottom is is tough and sturdy, it is not very flexible and this extra width caused problems in my camera bag. I had a specific place for my lens in my camera bag that worked well with a bit of wiggle room; however, I had to re-adjust my bag sections to get this thing to fit. Again, since this was the recommended pouch for my lens and made by Canon, I would have thought the fit would have been almost perfect.Not to dwell solely on the negatives, as I said above it has done it's job well thus far and the draw strings hold well. I would have preferred to pay twenty bucks instead of over thirty for what I got. I waffled between a 3 and a 4 rating, wished I could have given a 3.5. I rounded that up since one of my disappointments (the thinness of the cloth) has yet to fail. The width of the pouch was a minor annoyance, but overall the price is my biggest complaint. If you were to ask me if I'd buy it again, I'd have to say yes.

Although many lens manufacturers include a case with their lenses, Canon makes you pay a preium price for a soft lens pouch that unfortunately doesn't offer much padding or protection against mild impact. Still, the case is well made and will protect the lens from dust and will help prevent scratches. The drawstring closure secures the pouch very well, but the leather-like bottom is stiff and can make it more difficult to fit this lens pouch in your camera bag. I have two canon lenses, each of which is stored in these soft lens pouches (one is a different model but has the same design), and I find that I must tip and twist the leather bottoms of the pouches in order to fit them into the padded compartments in my Canon camera bag. I would prefer a more form fitting case for my Canon lenses, and I honestly think that Canon should provide them with their lenses, at no extra cost. After all, Canon is surely making a thick profit on their lenses, given the prices that they demand. Still, the Canon LP1222 Soft Lens Pouch is made well, for what it is, and it is certainly a better than nothing form of protection for your expensive Canon lenses. I give it 4 stars for the materials and build quality, but would probably rate it lower if based soley on design and protective properties.

For what it is it is a bit overpriced. However, I realize that Canon sets a minimum retail price for all of it's products. I knocked off a star for the Canon tax. That being said it is well made and does a fine job of protecting the lens and makes a great storage pouch.

This is the original lens pouch. It is well made, sturdy and ptotects well your expensive lens.

I bought this product for my Canon EF 70-300mm lens, because the lens package listed this as one of the accessories. I really like it, but there are few cons... First of all, it's a little bit too big from the bottom that is made from hard leather. And because of that it takes more space. Second of all, it's hard to close tightly. And because of that it's not as good protection against dust than I thought. Other than that I really like it. It feels well made.

This product is in fact as advertised. It is made of a fairly soft leather body and a padded and firmer bottom, also made of leather. The Canon logo is clearly visible and imprinted on the firmer bottom portion. This pouch along with the other Canon pouches listed are all pretty much made the same, but with varying sizes. The lenses listed will fit the Canon pouch. This pouch, as the others is not intended to hang from your camera strap and serve as a protector while getting knocked around. It will keep your lens covered and provide protection from dust and the kind of scratches that lenses get when sitting next to each other in your camera bag. Are they worth the money? To me they are. To some extent you pay from the Canon logo, as is the case with all products with name brands on them. Again, read the description, it states "Soft Lens Pouch". If you are looking for something sturdy to keep your lens in, this product may not be the best choice.
