The matte black ceramic matches my Pfaltzgraff Midnight Sun pattern really well, which is how I came to the product. So far the bell works great; if you appropriately push the room temp butter into the bell and fill it up with 1/3 cup water as directed, the butter stays fresh, soft, and there isn't really excess water on the butter itself, just the rim of the bell. The handle is easy to grab and the bell can stand upside-down on a table when opened. So this is better than hard fridge butter, melty or dusty exposed butter, or a large oblong butter dish lid that doesn't have a handle and requires you to have Shaq hands to palm it. My one note is that I agree with the person who said that a marker/line inside showing you how far to fill the water would be helpful so that you don't have to guess or use a measuring cup. I also have not used this in the summertime yet, when the butter might be more prone to slipping. If it works then, that will be the full test.

I love love this butter bell. I have left butter out on the counter my whole life. It was always unsightly and messy looking. This item stows the butter neatly and keeps it safely enclosed. I use my butter bell ALL THE TIME. It’s so cute and easy to clean. It holds the butter very well. I learned to only use salted butter in a butter bell. It lasts much longer than unsalted butter. The butter spreads so soft and is great for morning time breakfast

I will confess, I wanted a second container so that I would never run out of butter but I saved $8.76 with a competitor, Sweese Butter Dish. I’m on the west coast. The Sweese I purchased is for a larger stick of butter and has a mark inside to indicate how much water to add. The cost savings, water mark and larger capacity is great. BUT the Butter Bell is higher quality porcelain so there is that. Either is a good choice. Buy one, it’s the little things in life.

I bought this butter bell to make butter last longer while keeping it soft. It works. The principle is simple: pack the butter into the upper bowl of the lid, pour a small amount of water into the container, and slide the upper bowl of the lid into the container. The water creates a seal -- the butter remains soft (room temperature) and lasts much longer. The butter bell is not just a simple solution for keeping a small quantity of butter ready for use, it is the best solution.
