Too basic and only TradeStation examples
The book claims are unjustified to speak mildly. I really wasn't looking for an overly basic defn of algo trading and some sloppy high level rules to live by. Yes, the author does provide some examples. But they are good if you happen to have TradeStation. He should have made less exaggerated claims and should have noted in bold - examples are only applicable to TradeStation. I thought even $2.99 for a worthless overly basic book like this was too high. I can't spend time complaining Amazon for refund for such a small amount. But want to alert everyone in case you get fooled by positive reviews hee. Not worth your time.

Highly recommended for starting traders
I've been trading algorithmically for eight years. This is one of the best books that I've seen for a beginning algorithmic trader. I wish it had been available when I was starting out! Instead, I had to learn from the school of hard knocks. (I made plenty of mistakes at first.)This book is rather sort. However, it offers excellent "getting started" introduction of why algorithmic trading can work (if done correctly) and discusses the software packages that you'll need to get started. It doesn't get into the details of specific trading algorithms (a more-advanced topic), but it will help get you started. After you've read this book, you can turn to other books, like those from Larry Connors or Keith Fitschen, for ideas about specific trading strategies that provably work. This book gives you the enough information to get started with testing and programming strategies like these for yourself.

tiny and useless
This is a self published, small, 78 page paperback with super basic information. It definitely doesn't show you "how retail traders can successfully compete with professional traders" as written on the title page. Also: most plots are so tiny and low resolution that the text in the plot is blurred out to the level of being unreadable.

I liked the fact that he emphasizes basic principles and setting ...
As a long time investor in stocks, mutual funds, options and most recently futures I was looking to learn more about Algorithmic trading for the retail trader and ran across Kevin Davey. I liked the fact that he emphasizes basic principles and setting realistic goals. Even stating that Algo trading is not for every investor and may not be for you. I was going to buy his first book but this one seemed more appropriate for me plus It was brand new. It is an up to date easy to read guide to the basics. Graphics are a little weak though, small and hard to see but he actually will send them all to you them as .tif files so you can see them clearly. The book also provides step by step instructions in how to get started. I feel this book got me pointed in the right direction to begin developing my own strategies.

For the first time EVER, a book that is actionable that can help you become succeessful
So i never write reviews so take this for what it's worth. I have purchased thousands of dollars of financial books. In fact i have an extremely large book case of only financial books in my office; from fundamentals to classics like investment valuation to nearly all of Buffet's books to Remininincenses of a stock operator to whole host of books in-between. Let me say this- the are all good They all offer solid advice oh physiology, risk management and everything in between topics. However, no book i have ever read is directly actionable in the market to make money. Saying risk management is the fundamental key to success is absolutely true but at the end of the day isn't all the actionable. Just sound advice which we should adhere to is great but nothing all that is all that concrete to be honest.Kevin Davey in all his books breaks the mold. He gives sounds advice on how to make an algorithm trading system actionable. You need to gather specific ideas to tweak and modify to make your own and to ultimately implement strategies to make money- whether full time or the greatest side hustle of all time. Kevin is not going to give you code where you can copy and paste and make millions but will show you exactly how to get started and then let your own ideas take over.If you have interest in the topic and actually have the wherewithal to get started, you should read one author and one author only and that is Kevin Daley. You may read it and never do anything with it or you may read it, take action and it might change your life forever where you can do great great things in life.I choose to take action and hopefully make enough money where we can give significant money back to local causes and i would say if that comes true- it would be 100% because of Kevin and his writings and for that i just want to thank you.EVERYYONE SHOULD START WITH BOOK AND HIS OTHERS.Ryan Mitchell

Why is this a book
Such basic info... Not much content on algo trading at all.

Light on substance
There’s not much to say about this book because there is very little of value in it. Most key terms are not explained (eg “walkforward testing”) and not a single example of a valuable strategy is given (in fact he specifically says the strategies shown do not work). While I appreciate this book isn’t meant to be a secret guide to trading, to not even discuss a single valuable trading strategy makes it difficult for the reader to even imagine what a successful strategy looks like in practice. Most of the book is meaningless fluff that one could pick up in any blog post online. However, if you are the rare reader who literally has never heard of alto trading before and want a fifth grade explanation of it to get you started, this book might be good for you, which is why I’ve given it Teo stars instead of one.

Great for beginners
This is a great introduction to algo trading by one of the best in the business. Kevin has written a clear and easy to read book that has great advice and code for beginners and might assist those traders who are deciding whether or not algo trading is for them. Highly recommended :)

Excellent Summary of the Basics of a Hidden World
I was introduced to algo trading by some friends who, luckily for me, are exceptionally good at it. It's vanishingly unlikely you have similar friends so you're in luck in having found this book, and Kevin Davey. If you're at all interested in algo trading, don't bother searching online extensively, just buy this book. It is an excellent outline of the basic principles of algo trading, and I'd say essential reading if you have any interest in it, or maybe want to pursue algo trading of your own. Beware the many impostors out there trying to teach this; Kevin is the real deal.

Not a book but a broken printout of an HTML file
The book is a fake. It’s a printout of some HTML page of which it does not even preserve all of the pictures. In most pages you get the typical X of an internet explorer unable to load an image. Even for 99p, it would be wasted money

Very good indeed!
Davey covers all the bases. Also strong in outlining many of the pitfalls that real money traders fall prey to and outlining next steps for those traveling down the algorithmic route. Very good indeed!

The perfect beginner book if you want to start to automate your trading systems
To be honest when I saw that Kevin had a new book on Amazon I bought it immediately in a second. Got it by prime and started reading it at once. Only then I realized it's a book for beginners. BUT boy did I wish that I had such a book when I started with algotrading 2 years ago. There are all the important things that you need to program and automate your systems. Sometimes as a trader you feel very alone at home when it's about trading infrastructure. All the books out there (I own and read about 80) tell you about systems, trendlines and other stuff. But there are very few books about: Which configuration of software, broker, data feed do I need? How much are the fixed monthly costs? Sessiontimes? Or are you the right person for algo trading? This book does a great job answering does questions.

This is should be a "must read" for trading beginners. It is not only a compendium of algorithmic trading advice but also a comparative path from the different classes of trading systems,Most of the chapters are relevant: advantages, disadvantages & misconceptions of algorithmic trading, how to begin, how to choose a platform, and an example of how to build a simple algorithm, or about emotions."The first misconception in algo trading -that there is no emotion - is also the first disadvantage. Trading with real money involves emotion. You must learn to accept that ...Emotions are because of the money involved, not the type of trading"
