Perfect device for recording wedding audio!
As I start to film weddings, I knew that I needed to upgrade the audio quality. I needed a device that could record the audio for the speeches and ceremony from the sound board. For me it was between this and the Zoom H4N.One of the best features I’ve found is the safety track with the dual recording. There is nothing worse than finding that the audio you recorded has peaked and isn’t useable. This way it records a second track at a lower volume and can save you.Another great feature is the fact you can record up to four tracks. This device allows you to record using XLR and Line inputs. This is really useful at weddings when you don’t know what output the DJ is going to have for you.Something that is reassuring but not something I’ll need is the fact you can use up to a 128GB SD card. This allows you to record so much audio without the need of deleting it from the card.Overall, this is a device which has been very useful and works great. The fact that all of this is available for a good price is great. There are a couple of things that could be improved including the build quality and there can be a little noise heard. Yet, all in all, I’ve been really happy with this and would recommend it to others.

Great Handheld Recorder
Is a great product and sounds awesome. Very easy to use and has a straight-forward operation. My only negatives would include - it doesn't include an SD card, and won't record without one, so there will be an immediate additional cost. This might seem like a funny one but the microphones are very sensitive; if you hold it in your hand, the microphones will pick up ANY little movement your hand makes - if you're in record mode and press a button, the click will also be picked up - I think a holder of some kind would solve the problem, so that's another thing to consider.Other than those things, is it a great recorder and I highly recommend it.

Nice, Nice, Nice!
I'm really happy with this recorder as it does everything I need and more beside! The layout is so well thought out, it has been designed really well in my opinion.I bought a Tascam DR05 a few years ago which has been excellent and is still doing a great job. However, I wanted a machine which has a larger screen. I also wanted a recorder with quarter inch jack sockets and the Tascam DR40X fulfills all those requirements.I use wav and MP3 settings on some files and find the sound quality is excellent for piano, keyboards etc. It handles musical instruments with a big dynamic range really, really well whether I use the inbuilt mics or direct inject. When recordings made on this are played back from this through a big quality hi-fi system it produces a tremendous wall of sound that is so faithful to the original sound. However, I also like to plug in high quality headphones directly into it and the quality of sound produced certainly puts a smile on my face... it's that good! All in all, I really like this unit, for what I use it for it is well designed and well built. Highly recommended!

Great device for stereo recordings
I used this to record DJ sets using the line ins, and also recording a piano using a couple of small condenser mics with the phantom power.I noticed another DJ with a different portable recorder having some difficulty recording from the mixer because his recorder (I think the Tascam DR20) didn't have a control for the input level, whereas this one does. One thing to bear in mind is that although it will record to 4 channels, it uses the internal mics in addition to the 2 external channels. You can't connect 4 external mics or use the 3.5mm line in at the same time as the combi jacks. You will also get 2 x stereo files which you will need to sync up afterwards. So it's best to think of this as a very high quality stereo recorder rather than a 4 channel device. The internal mics are very good - I've used this to record audio outside with great results and although I took some good quality external mics with me, I ended up just using the internal mics as the quality was superb.Make sure you get the furry windscreen muff thing to go over the mics if you're planning on recording outside; to reduce windnoise. You can also do M/S decoding if you have a couple of decent extermal mics.

On top of being a recorder, a great audio interface
Amazing. I am actually now using it as an audio interface to record synths and sounds via the mic. Also for playing back the sounds from my computer.

Great small format recorder
The Tascam is capable of high quality recordings either via the internal condenser microphones or via the TRS line inputs connected directly from a mixing desk. It is really easy to start recording high quality audio straight out of the box and the more complex features can be learned as you go along. When connected to a mixing desk you can record multiple mixed inputs directly to the Tascam. The Tascam is capable of producing CD quality audio and is great value for money. Recommended.
