Simple is as simple does.
It's as simple as just sticking it in the dirt and immediately seeing the temperature.

Works great... A necessary item when raising worms...
Right now it is summer and the temps are approaching a 100 degrees. I am new to raising worms and was starting to worry about the health of the worms in my six bins as the temps started rising above the 90 degrees that can kill composting worms. I have initiated a couple of minor precautions that have kept the bins 15 to 20 degrees cooler than the outside temps. Some of these precautions are using white bins, keeping bins in shade, digging bins into the dirt, putting shredded wet cardboard on top of the bin soil and wet old towels on top of the bins themselves for evaporation cooling. Due to summer heat, I use this Thermometer daily, and I will likely have to use the thermometer and other precautions in in winter as well to keep my worms as close to 70 degrees as possible.

Good thermometer from dedicated instrument company.
You always want to buy an instrument that's measurement parameters are as close to the expected conditions as possible. This dedicated worm farm thermometer from Reotemp is exaclty that. It's not the cheapest thermometer some worm retailer could find to slap their brand on. Thermometers are Reotemps specialty. Thats why I chose it. I wanted a good thermometer so I went with a thermometer company. Reads quickly and accurately. Reotemp will definitely get a look for all my future instrument needs.

Not a regular thermometer.
This is not your regular thermometer because one it doesn’t start around 90 degrees. And no you can’t use a regular thermometer unless it’s digital.

It’s a gauge. It works, but I prefer digital
This gauge does the job it is supposed to do, but I realized after I bought it that I wanted to know the exact temperature, the PH levels, and the moisture content. My needs were better served with a combination digital option. I tended to not want to sit and wait for the gauge and when I did wait, I didn’t have confidence in my own readings.
