Does it have good instructions on how to wire it up.

I do not advise you to wire this directly to the starter coil, although that may be the only easy choice and what the product tells you to do. It is possible that some who state hi current and melting are using this incorrectly. To start the car, this switch would be best In series with the starter relay in the relay box (not the relay coil on the starter), there are " Fuse socket connector kit's" on Amazon. IT may be possible to pull you fuse box stater relay and wire it back to the socket with these, that way you could use this switch to engage the lower current coil in that relay, rather than the higher current coil located on the starter. To complicate that further some cars may have a switch for the power to the relay and some always power the fuse box starter relay and turn it on by the computer supplying a ground switch, so you would need to determine that. This is how I use it in my system. Plus it is much easier to get at the fuse box relay then your starter coil and much safer, if you know how to do this.If you do wire this to the starter relay switch either at the starter or another location, it is a good idea as someone stated to hold it just long enough to start the car. If this is failing as some have stated after 4-5 times then it is no so well designed and you may want to get electrical schematics to figure how to use your fuse box relay.This is not designed and should NEVER be used as a "jumper" that runs from battery directly to the starter windings, in that case, this will melt and potentially start a fire. This would be a very bad thing to do.So in summary most if not all cars go thru this sequence, turn key to start, this supplies power to your starter relay coil in the relay box, that then supplies current to the relay coil mounted on the starter, which is a much bigger coil and relay and will draw alot more current. The large coil on the starter then picks up the final switch that connects the battery to the starter and you have hundreds of amps flowing. That is why starters fail, from the high current, the starter wingdings are fine 90% of the time, its the starter relay contacts that go bad.Best and safest use is to figure a way to wire it IN SERIES with the starter relay in the relay box. Do yourself a favor if you are unsure and buy a fuse from the auto store and another 10-14 gauge wire and wire the fuse in series with this switch if it does not have an internal fuse. Spring for a subscription from Alldata or Mitchell, it is generally about 26$ and well worth your money. You can go to either site and see a full fledged car/truck subscription posted freely, it is 100% same as subscriptions they sell, if they post your car or truck, you are lucky!

how do you turn the motor off from outside

I use this for compression testing, and I've never had a motor start with all the spark plugs removed and the fuel shut off. That said, if you don't turn the ignition on, you can run the starter with this without ignition.

The description says China, but the manufacturer responded with Taiwan. Does it matter? This is some wire and a switch. It is not made in the US, otherwise you would need to pay 4x+ the price. The question should be does it work. The COO does not make anything work better.

Good heavy duty switch, clamps need to be bigger and cable longer, but good value overall

On my 2 door Infiniti g37, I struggled to get the clips on, and when I beared down on the clamp with all my might, got it onto the B wire, but that is full clamp jaw width to get it on, so the clamps need to be about 1/3 larger and longer. The remote wire was at maximum extension while I sat in the car, and I still had to hang my hand out the door, not long enough to take with me all the way into the drivers seat so I would add about 3ft to it. Overall though, its the best switch I have seen on Amazon for the money and the trigger is very heavy duty with a good switch and spring in it. It probably can handle 50 amps no issues. I would recommend it again for the few times a home mechanic will need it.

Must have item for setting timing and checking compression

This works as advertised. It lets me run the starter while standing beside my motor without having to step away or have a buddy turn the key. I used it to check engine compression and to set the timing. I wasn't sure where to attach the electric clamps, but a helpful review from July 2023 had a nice photo of where to attach them to my Mercury 90 Hp 2 stroke outboard. Thank you Jeremy Hall. Quality seems decent, probably not heavy enough for a commercial mechanic shop, but good enough for an amateur mechanic like me who will only use occasionally. It was very inexpensive, and i consider it good value for the money. I am pleased and I recommend this item.
