Jolly Stories In Print Letters (Jolly Phonics)

My twins can finally remember the sounds for letters thanks to this book and the cd/songs. Works for some kids.

Wonderful stories to accompany the jolly phonics curriculum!

My son loves the stories.

This is the book I used to teach my child how to read. I didn't know how to teach him. He certainly didn't know how to read. Together, every night, we read 'Jolly Stories', sounded the words, traced the letters, and it all made beautiful sense. In the book there are seven stories in total, carried by a group of characters: Snake, Bee, and Inky (a mouse). Each spread (two pages) introduces a different sound that is explored in the text. For example, the first story is called "Looking for sounds". It introduces the sound 'sss' and there are all kinds of 's' words in the text. Whenever a new sound is introduced the child is encouraged to sound it out, trace it on the page, make a gesture that signifies it, and read a couple of words that exemplify it. I found this approach much more complete than any other phonics system around, and it worked!

This DVD would not work. I’m sad because I love Jolly Phonics!

I bought this for my 5 yr old son.only complaint is the price. Price too high for only one DVD .

Excellent story book, my kids like the illustrations, and it encourages them to read.

I thought there was only one Jolly Phonics DVD, but it seems there are several available. I thought I was ordering the Jolly Jingles DVD, but this is infact two episodes of a programme similar to Play School (or Show Me, Show Me) with stories and songs about different letters. It is good, but not the type of thing children would want to watch again and again. After 3 viewings this will probably be left to gather dust. It seems the Jolly Jingles are not available on DVD, only on CD, which seems to defy the purpose as the children need to see the letters too , and are not always going to hold a book.
