Works Perfectly!
My wife and I were down to 2 choices, the tubular barrier or this Midwest model. The tubular product would not have suited our needs because our dog's head could go through the tubular bars where he could reach seatbelt straps that he would then destroy. So we decided to go with the Midwest barrier. The installation was clear-cut and easy. For about the first week there were no rattles. But by the second week, small rattles would occur on rough roads. This was easily fixed by using small black cable ties where ever grating overlapped the base grate. There have been no rattles since. There was also a small place where the sides of the barrier smacked against the plastic window molding when going over speed bumps. This was easily fixed by using a self-adhesive, small (1/2" diameter) circular felt pad at the point of contact on both window moldings. The barrier now makes no noises what so ever. The only other "issue" that we noticed was that one of the grate clamps was in the way of the rear view visibility. Again, this was easily fixed by moving the clamp to the very top of the grate and using black cable ties where the clamp previously held the grates together. All in all I would highly recommend this product to anyone. You may need to get a few small cable ties, but they work well. Also, this barrier fits perfectly in the back of our 2009 Rav-4.

So...I've tried a lot of these.
If you happened to glance through the list of items I've reviewed or really even just items I've bought, you would see that I've bought a lot of pet barriers for my car. So far, this is the closest I've gotten to actually keeping my dogs out of the front seat, which is AMAZING! This barrier will definitely keep the dogs in the back seat. If you're planning on putting this up between your back seat and your trunk, you should have no problems with it at all. Installation takes a little while and you've kind of got to get the hang of it if you're installing it yourself, but for shorter areas (trunk floor to ceiling, small cars) it'll do the job in no time. If you have a larger car with more room between the floor and the ceiling, this barrier might pose some problems, as it did for me. The barrier comes with threaded "legs" that you can adjust to whatever height you need the barrier to be. I was able to get the legs as tall as I needed them in my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, but I had to use every centimeter of the legs, all the way up at the top, and they were somewhat unwieldy. I put the barrier between my backseat (which I have lying down for my dogs, since we travel a lot) and my front seat and whenever my partner and I sat in the seat, it pushed the barrier back enough that it fell down. I can't move the barrier back anymore because my backseat is lying down. I think that, if the legs were just a little bit taller, the barrier might hold up better because it would be tighter to the ceiling. With that said, while the barrier was up (and even when it was not tight against the ceiling and was sort of hanging there, propped up by my backseat), the dogs couldn't get through and boy, were they upset about that. I wasn't though! (#doglife #iwin) I'm going to try to do a little bit more adjusting and see if I can't get the barrier to get a little bit taller and move it back some. The moral of the story is, if you have a small car or if you're putting this barrier between your backseat and your trunk, this will do wonders for you. If you're putting it between your front seat and your back seat in a larger car, you might have some trouble so just anticipate that. Overall though, this barrier is top notch!

Wire Mesh Barrier--- Better than most
When our Boxer puppy gnawed on the dashboard ($$$) and steering wheel of our Mercedes 350 GLK I knew I had to do something and quickly. Amazon has a good selection of pet barriers. They fall into basically 5 categories: tubular floor to ceiling, tubular side to side mount, cloth mesh, mount on headrest, and wire mesh. I ruled out the tubular floor to ceiling type because the puppy could easily get through it, and the tubular side to side type because there was no convenient place to mount it. The mesh would be chewed through in a minute. The mount on headrest type would leave the back of the seats available to be chewed and that left only the wire mesh type which I ordered. It came promptly but was evidently dropped in shipment. The box was crushed on the corner, the plastic shipping ties were all broken, the mesh was bent in a couple of places and a weld or 2 were broken. Fortunately none of this was structural and was quickly straightened. I thought this would be less hassle than returning it for replacement. My application required placement behind the front seat because we have 3 dogs and need the entire back area plus access to the rear doors to load dogs. I had to re-engineer the mounting and purchased new 1/2 inch x 3 foot threaded rod so that the unit could stand on the floor and reach to the ceiling and still be stable. The rod that comes with it is non-standard size and so poorly machined that the included wing nuts turn only with difficulty. I also used HVAC ties to secure the unit to the front headrests (the mesh keeps teeth off the back of the seats). I purchased the extension mesh and it fits quite well between the seats. A little duct tape keeps everything from rattling. It is very stable and quiet. Overall, a good solution for dogs that like to chew! I recommend it, and it is probably better than most, but gave it only 3 stars because of the rough shipping treatment and the poor quality hardware that came with it.

Fits a CX-5 perfectly, Easy Instructions in American English!
I'm very impressed and very pleased. It arrived quickly and in excellent condition. Although it clearly says "made in China" on the box, the company is based in the US - I only mention this because one item was immediately apparent: The instructions were very clear and written in American English. That said, assembly was easy. Although it's a universal device, that includes a number of grates you can add to fit all shapes of vehicles, I did not need them. Only the two main grates were needed for a perfect fit in my 2020 Mazda CX-5. With good positioning, and a solid rubber cargo mat on the floor, the unit stays sturdily in place with nothing more than cranking down firmly on two wing nuts to secure it in place. The wing nut's provide the tension to extend the two metal legs - keeping it "jammed" between the floor and the roof. If you own a CX-5 you'll understand when I say that all I had to do was adjust the recline of my rear seats forward one notch to get that perfect position. The product seems high enough quality, and even comes with two rubber silencers to prevent the grates from ratting against each other. When installed properly it doesn't make a sound. No modifications to the vehicle are necessary and because of where the top portions rest, I'm not at all concerned that it might damage my headliner or roof. We have a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy who is very quickly going to grow into a 110-lb puppy... this grate is the solution for convenient, simple travel. Our puppy seems to perceive it no differently than his own crate and simply ignores it, just lays down and sleeps while in travel. Highly recommended. I'm very happy with mine.

Complete junk
Complete junk. Poor design. Difficult to install. Wing nuts were wrong thread size and slipped on threaded post used to pressure fit gate between floor and ceiling. Ended up duct taping nuts in place, hammering a 2x4 under one post, and duct taping gate to headrests to secure it. Plastic caps fall off posts with any movement during installation. Nothing fit correctly. Looks terrible! Most frustrating POS I have ever tried to put together. Have aspirin handy. Buyer beware! **I am amending this review after two weeks. If zero stars was an option, I would give it. Almost daily, because the threaded wing nuts wouldn't tighten, the gate fell out of place. The only thing holding it in place was duct tape -- literally! The slightest jolt in the car from the road or the dog would result in the gate falling over. Eventually I bought two additional child gates and tried to wedge them against this POS to hold it in place -- nope, still fell. Then one of the cheep plastic clamps fell off and one of the metal gate panels just started swinging back and forth. Today I had enough. I ripped it out of the car and wrote off the ten or so hours I have put into this thing trying to rig it up to work as a lesson learned. It is now laying at the end of the driveway. If you want one for free, come and get it. It should be criminal to repeatedly sell something this faulty to unsuspecting buyers. Just look at all the 1 star feedback. Numerous buyers report an eerily similar experience to mine with the same issues in faulty product hardware. Amazon should force the seller to remove this item from sale. Anything short illustrates a complete disregard for its customers.

Great SUV dog barrier!!!
Love this barrier! We got a Great Dane about 6 months ago and had to rethink the way we do road trips. She wasn't comfortable in the back seat of our SUV but she likes to be close to us so when I tried her riding in the rear of my SUV she jumped over the seat and almost landed on my daughter. So I needed a way to keep her confined to the rear area. After reading lots of reviews on this style and the tube style barrier I decided on this one. I was worried with her size and strength that if she "thought" she could get through a gap in the tubes that she would try....and win. This one covers so completely that I figured she would take one look at it and deem it impassable and not mess with it. I was right, she has never tried to get past it and has never knocked it down. This installed pretty quickly and is easy to take in and out as needed. I leave it up most of the time but I can't get to my rear bottom storage space with it up so sometimes I take it down if I know I'll be needing in that compartment. But it goes right back in the car in minutes when needed. Once you have the panels set up for your car configuration it's a quick in and out. We took the suggestion of other reviews and added zip ties at several places where the two panels join and have had no rattle noises. I'm so happy with this purchase. It has made travel so much less stressful knowing my "huge" dog is safe and comfortable in the back and my child isn't going to get squashed in the back seat.

Worth the $ and a little extra effort
I am thoroughly pleased with this product. My husband and I moved from Oregon to Pennsylvania with a cat- driving. We decided for everyone's comfort to install this barrier and designate the cargo space as the cat's travel home. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and weighing the pros and cons of this product with others; ultimately I went with this product because of price, reviews, and how it fit our needs. Pretty much all of these are designed with dogs in mind so we needed something that would contain a 7lb cat for 3,500 miles. We took the advice of a lot of reviewers and bought pipe insulation for the outside edges to prevent rattling and provide a better fit. This worked like a dream. The barrier fit nice and snug and the insulation (coupled with zip ties placed at certain spots throughout the barrier) meant no rattling even as we drive through rocky areas. I wish I would have taken a bit more time to adjust the barrier to better fit our needs, though. I was able to avoid most gap issues with the extra pieces provided but still had a relatively large gap at the top (the cat eventually figured this out) and large enough gaps at the sides for the cat to squeeze through. We were able to improvise by stuffing the gaps with coats but it would have been nice to avoid. However, considering this was designed for larger animals, I didn't have any issues with it. We didn't use the hardware that came with the barrier. Like other reviewers stated- it's cheap. We went the zip tie route as we felt it provided a more secure option and didn't obstruct our view. This also helped prevent any rattling. For the price point (including the insulation and zip ties) we we're extremely happy with our product. I was even able to use the extra pieces to install a shelf in my cat's crate so, when we brought her in at night, she could have her litter box, bed, food, and water all available in her crate without being forced to sleep in her litter or eat in her bed. It helped create a mini travel cat-condo.

2015 Honda CR-V
Ordered this for my new car so that my lab-collie mix wouldn't destroy my light interior during car rides. This dog is a maniac and has licked every surface of the interior of my new car. Licking has to stop. Jumping from backseat to passenger seat to dashboard to lap has to stop. Cue this barrier. Shipping: All parts were included in the box, as well as some wonky but legible assembly directions. Fiancé complained about directions being terrible but when I glanced at them, they seemed good enough in combination with innate engineering sense, which I don't possess but fiancé sometimes does. Assembly: Fiancé installed in vehicle. It took about 45 minutes. I watched from inside the house because it was hot out. I am supportive this way. He installed the grate slightly tilted for some reason. Possibly out of spite. I complained about it but alas, it stays tilted. Durability: Grate seems sturdy. Rods at base that attach to the floor of the trunk are questionably sharp and could be useful for a future lobotomy. Extensions on sides leave only about 2 inches of space for maniac dog to finagle through. Will update review if this happens. Will also alert Guinness Book of World Records. Road noise: Fiancé's innate engineering sense was strong during install. He attached rubber grips from the main grate to each side grate. Apparently this helps with rattling. I awarded him points for cleverness and sass. Drove the vehicle today and the grate didn't so much rattle as it bahh-ed like a sheep. Very muffled. As a responsible driver, I did check my rearview for sheep and somewhat to my dismay, there were none. Our relationship: To be edited later, but overall health and wellness of our coupledom should increase. Maniac dog: Continues to display maniacal behaviors. Will update if this changes. Overall, I rate this as 4 stars. Decent price, easy setup (for the person not installing) and fairly quiet. UPDATE 1 (4/17): Due to circumstances unrelated to this grate, fiancé and I have called off our wedding. Silver lining: I kept maniac dog. UPDATE 2 (12/17): After much contemplation, I decided to sell this grate on the local internet marketplace. Reasoning is due to the complicated-ness of removing the grate to transport large items, and the ensuing reinstall of the grate after said items are transported. A kind civilian answered my ad and we met in a gas station parking lot. I chose a public place in case her motives were ulterior. For several minutes, I fumbled with the grate attempting to demonstrate its usefulness and ease of install. The latter was obviously untrue. Civilian could tell. I finally inquired whether the civilian was married. She replied yes. I informed her that her husband would likely be able to figure out the grate. She immediately paid me my asking price of $15 and I left feeling triumphant. My vehicle interior was completely destroyed a week after the sale of the grate. So there's that. UPDATE 3 (9/18): I spent my summer training maniac dog to drive the CR-V. His urge to be in the driver’s seat is satisfied. I have caught up on nearly every book on my reading list. This is a win-win for the foreseeable future.

Abbastanza semplice il montaggio, sarebbe utile vi fosse una terza barriera, comunque i cani adulti non passano, i cuccioli si.

Amazing quality! perfect fit! does NOT rattle at all!!! (Jeep cherokee 2014-)
Amazing quality for the price! (Installed in a Jeep Cherokee 2014-now) Very satisfied. I use it as a safety separation between the passenger seats and the "trunk" storage. It fits perfectly. The back seats seem to be designed for this product. The grid itself is very sturdy, a lot of configurations are possible due to a very good design. Some people say that it rattles, I did not hear a single sound... except from seeing it in the mirror, it's like if it was not there! Very impressed! Simply follow EVERY steps while installing it, read the very clear, short documentation provided, do not try to figure it out by yourself, it will work! There is two sets of left and right panels (different sizes), you only need one, very well made once again. I bought rubber covers for the screws (few cents per unit), it makes it absolutly perfect.
