Clairol Natural Instincts Demi-Permanent Hair Dye, 6A Light Cool Brown

Edit: I’ve used this Demi-permanent dye a few times now. It is definitely saving my hair from box dye damage bc it isn’t nearly as strong as permanent hair dyes. I have noticed there is zero damage after using this. My hair feels soft and shiny after using it. I have noticed that when it fades it kind of loses its brown and turns a tiny bit green (on me) but I got this in a neutral dark brown color. If you get it in a warmer time it “might” get a little brassy. My natural color is pure white gray. This also happens with permanent dye so I wasn’t surprised. If it fades and I’m not ready to do a permanent dye I just give the top of my hair a few spritz of temporary hair dye spray in dark brown. I like Schwarzkopf in dark brown better than other brands I’ve tried. Getting Demi premier dye is worth it for me. I’m growing my hair out and need it to be as health as it can be so I don’t need frequent trims.I think the way it fades is going depend on the color you choose and what color you’re putting it over.I use this every other time I dye my hair to decrease the effects of box dye damage. The color is right and matches my permanent dye color. It does wash out and will fade like it’s supposed to over a couple of weeks. I don’t wash my hair often so it actually lasts longer for me.My hair is 100% white- gray naturally so I was worried it wouldn’t cover my roots. Bc I dye it dark brown those roots really show. But It does cover them. It makes them brown but not as dark brown as a permanent dye. Way better than pure white though. I just came back and ordered 3 more boxes because I’m happy with it.

Gentle on my 4b curly hair. No hair breakage like with some box hair dyes. It even covered my grays really well. Long lasting color that is shiny and no ammonia smell. I had to re-color my hair because of new growth, not because the color faded. Overall, a great product.

I’ve been using Clairol Natural Instincts for many years, and it has remained one of my favorite at-home hair colors.One of the biggest reasons I continue buying it is that it doesn’t leave my hair feeling dry, damaged, or weighed down after coloring. My hair stays soft and healthy-looking, which is something I really value.I do have gray hair, and while this demi-permanent color doesn’t provide 100% gray coverage, it does a great job of blending my grays so they are much less noticeable. For me, it creates a more natural look instead of a harsh line of regrowth as the color fades.If you’re looking for complete gray coverage, you may want to consider a permanent dye instead. However, if your goal is healthier-looking hair with softer, more natural gray blending, I think this is an excellent option.

I used this to cover up red dye. I just wasn’t feeling the color, so when my roots began to come in, I thought I’d try dying it close to my natural color so that I can grow this out a little more gracefully.I have naturally level 6 neutral brown hair. I went with this level 6 cool brown in hopes of tilting the redness closer to my natural color.I didn’t find the formula messy at all. The instructions say to use more than one bottle if your hair is longer than shoulder length, but my hair is a little past my collar bone, and I didn’t need extra. The dye did not tilt the red tone as aggressively as I’d hoped, but my hair reads as a golden brown now. It doesn’t look too different from my roots, so I still consider this a win.I will say the enclosed conditioner was terrible for my hair. It’s not Clairol’s fault that my hair is unnaturally low porosity, but if your hair is like mine… maybe don’t try it right before you have to go anywhere haha. My hair felt like I dumped olive oil on it after I used it.But overall, for the price, I’m pretty happy!

Perfect for blending grey very naturally! In my younger days I had auburn hair. When I went grey I started using permanent blonde 8 dye. Years later I got tired of maintaining it (grey roots, argh), and grew out my natural grey. Unfortunately my own grey was a mousy color and did not go well with my green eyes and warm coloring. I tried glazes, purple shampoos, etc., but the cool tones never looked right. I tried this product, and it was perfect! I only left it on 10 minutes, and it gave my grey hair a warm champagne glow. I still look grey, I’m 72 and not trying to hide that. It’s just that this grey is warm and natural on me. And the shade is light enough and fades enough that there is no “grow out” one month later. Bonus points for smelling nice and not damaging my hair like permanent dyes. I am putting this on subscription!

I have now used several colors from this product line and have been a repeat purchaser on a monthly basis. The price point is terrific and saves me a lot of money at a salon. As someone who isn't great with dying my own hair, I find this easy to use. The fact that it doesn't leave a distinct root line as it fades is a bonus. I only have a few grays, and this does a good job of blending them with the rest of my hair. It won't cover grays completely, though, so if you have a lot, you'll want to use a permanent dye, instead. It's much gentler and less damaging on your hair than permanent dye, which is another reason why I like it. I plan to keep using this until I have enough grays to warrant more coverage.

This is probably one of the better demi dyes. It takes pretty well to gray hair just leave it on longer after saturating it. I don't like coloring my hair too often and this dye fades out very nicely so the fade and change in color is very gradual. For me 1 dye process lasts for a couple months as I don't mind the gray peaking thru since my gray is distributed all over my scalp. This photo is at approximately 9 weeks.

Such disappointment. Initially after use, my hair looked gorgeous. I loved the idea of semi-permanent color that would gently and gradually fade. After only 5 shampoos (gentle, sulfate free shampoo), it’s gone. It looks the same as before I used it. So, the good is that it left my hair looking healthy and didn’t cause any damage, but the bad is that it just didn’t hold up. To note, I generally use medium brown. I used light brown in this. and I was glad I did. It looked more medium, and I am afraid medium brown would have been quite dark.

First time trying this product after researching plant based and least damaging hair dye. The dark brown variant covered my greying roots blending nicely with my previous colour. Followed the instructions carefully and timely especially my hair has become brittle due to previous dyeing and chemical treatments. No itch or allergic reaction. The treatment included which I applied only to the coloured roots left my hair soft. The tube last me quite a few washes. Highly recommended. Im about to repurchase to replenish my supply. Thanks 😊

My hair is naturally an ashy medium blonde. I don't need grey coverage. I've been playing a little bit with 6RR of the same line for the past few months, and as the color was slowly fading after a couple of months, I've decided to try a lighter shade to maintain the rosy gold I had left on my hair.Used 7RG last night. Used 2 boxes as my hair is getting insanely long. The formula is more liquid than the 6RR (auburn). But the results are better than I expected! A nice rose gold, shiny. We'll see how it will fade away!Note: if you have dark hair, this shade won't do much for you. You can't expect your hair to become this shade unless you lighten it up first! I've seen a few comments here about dark brunettes disappointed by the color... and it's normal. Either use a darker shade made for darker hair, or get your hair lightened first (I recommend a professional for this). Will buy again once the price comes back down.
