Accusize Industrial Tools No.00 Hss Keyway Broach Precision Sets in Fitted Wooden Box, 5100-0001

This is a very reasonably priced set of three small Keyway broaches. They came with several bushings and one shim. I think they should include a second shim in order to get the Keyway cut to the proper depth, but I was able to make one myself from some scrap material I had on hand.

I build steam engines from castings, and have never been satisfied with the standard "grub screw on a flat" means of attaching the flywheel, but I thought proper broaches only came in large sizes. This broach set is made for tiny work--the broaches fit in the palm of my hand. I didn't need an arbor press either; I put the flywheel across two 1-2-3 blocks in my mill vise and used the quill to press the baby broach through. Don't forget to go to Grainger and get some matching baby key stock. Top notch for model machine shop work.

Got it to cut some keyways in some gears and it work great

Used this to broach a 1/8" keyway in a gear. worked great, broach was sharp, had zero problems! Nice little set, I'd recomend. I used a harbor freight 12 ton press to do the job.

I've cut a couple of key ways with these and they turned out great. Agree that they could use a second shim.

I was able to broach steel with a two ton press. I needed to make an additional spacer. One spacer is not enough.

Good value for the price. Broaches are .001 oversize but that's OK because it usually doesn't matter if the keyway is slightly over and there will be some wear to the broach.

I'm very pleasantly surprised at the value. I was concerned that they wouldn't cut steel but they have no problem with it. Because I wasn't careful with alignment during one cut, I broke the 1/8 broach in two - not the fault of the product. It's still usable in two pieces and keeps cutting. A great product.

Broaching 4140 Ht at 3/32. Worked great.
