In the year 2029, the ruling super-computer, Skynet, sends an indestructible cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger) back in time to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), before she can fulfill her destiny and save mankind. Review: A Timeless Sci-Fi Thriller for the Whole Family - The Terminator is an action-packed classic that provides a perfect blend of suspense, sci-fi, and heart-pounding moments. From start to finish, it keeps viewers on the edge of their seats with its gripping storyline and dynamic pacing. Watching it as a family was such a fun experience; it's the kind of film that sparks discussions and excitement long after the credits roll. While it leans into action and intensity, it's still a movie anyone 13 and over can enjoy, making it a great choice for the family movie night. That definitely comes from the great performances of the cast that bring this futuristic, high-stakes plot to life. Special effects, although done from an era long past, amaze and still hold up surprisingly well, further adding to the film's charm. The movie has great action intertwined with suspense and intrigue, thus making every viewer take something from it. The members of my family who were not into science fiction were captivated by it, meaning the movie was universal. Beyond the excitement, The Terminator is a thought-provoking film that explores themes of resilience, determination, and the human spirit. While there are a few intense scenes, they’re handled in a way that’s not overly graphic, making it appropriate for teens and above. If you’re looking for a thrilling, well-rounded movie that the whole family can enjoy, this one is a must-watch. It’s a timeless adventure that stands as a benchmark in science fiction cinema. Review: Excellent Condition - Terrific item! Arrived in great shape!

Unstoppable Killing Machine -- Original Tech Noir
5 Stars for originality, story, effects and action! The DVD is solid too, with a fair amount of extras. Some of you may remember when we all feared the Ruskies would nuke us any day -- this film capitalized on that fear and introduced us all to a new terror -- the evils of machines rising up against mankind. Plot revolves around deadly battle/chase to stop a cyborg sent back thru time. Many other reviewers will relate every detail, but I suggest you watch the movie. Keep in mind this was the one that started it, before the matrix and all the others. Film has a dark tone that is compelling. Lots of action, weapons, and some Sci-Fi but not too much. Man vs his creation in a sci-fi tech nightmare. That theme has since been redone several times since in many ways. The Terminator set the bar for Tech Noir films, and is the best of the series of three (T2 Judgement Day and T3 Rise of the Machines). Ironic that after all the Hollywood destruction now the Terminator "runs" California. . . Rise of the Machine? This movie is the role that defined Schwarzenagger's career more than any other. See the DVD and you'll know what I mean. The Special Edition Terminator DVD is worth the price! Quality of sound and video is excellent, bearing in mind that it is almost 20 years old now. Effects are awesome for the 80's. But Cameron's original Terminator was made without a major budget, and before Arnold was a big star. Still they pulled it off nicely! Not as much as later version, but the Extras (artwork, trailers, deleted scenes, & a sort of screenplay) on this DVD are worthy of the $15 price. I just watched it again, go get yours. This version (special ed) is worthy of a place in your collection too, although a boxed set may be coming out with all three sometime.

One of the greatest love stories ever told. The only terminator with real substance.
I used to think this film was cool at first, with all the action scenes Arnold doing his thing. Then I thought it was aged poorly because T-2 had so much better special effects. But honestly its better now than it was back then! For me anyway. The layers of the story line, and the fact that underneath what is essentially a sci-fi horror film exists one of the most tragic and beautiful love stories that was ever written. You really have to watch it a few times to fully grasp the poetry of the picture that was taken. The fact that he spent all that time studying a picture of a woman who was thinking about him when it was made, and wondering why she was sad. "I'll be back" may have become Arnolds punch line, and it may work for the guys, but "I came through time for you, I love you Sarah, I always have" and what came after really pushed the movie into an epic love story beyond anything else, and is really the best line; even better than "come with me if you want to live'. I think the sound track for this one is better too, it just fits better I think, particularly the love theme portion.

an amazing movie
This film presents a dark, foreboding and terrifying story, yet also an action-packed, thrilling and unforgettable adventure. “The Terminator” is a standout movie, a defining film of the 1980’s, and one of the finest sci-fi cinematic releases of all time. It launched the careers of director James Cameron and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and offered audiences one of the most ruthless and unstoppable villains in all of fiction: the deadly cyborg from the future. The story concerns two time travellers – journeying back to 1984, from a bleak future decimated by decades of war between a machine Artificial Intelligence (called Skynet) and the few remaining humans who have survived nuclear apocalypse. These time travellers have distinctly opposing missions. One is a man-machine, a cyborg, who is programmed for assassination. The other is human resistance fighter, sent to protect a young woman. As the paths of these time travellers inextricably collide, history is itself capable of being re-made. If the Terminator is successful, Skynet will win the war and achieve ultimate victory. If the resistance fighter can save the woman, her son – not yet even conceived – will one day defeat Skynet and provide humankind with a second chance. This film, from 1984, is a very low-budget affair. This resulted in the director – as well as the special effects team – being highly innovative. The outcome is impressive … and while a couple of shots do not quite hold-up to present-day scrutiny, this pre-CGI movie presents us with a horrific vision of the future. The performance by Schwarzenegger – as the unfeeling Terminator – is awesome, and he offers us a highly memorable antagonist. Likewise, the roles played by Michael Biehn (as resistance fighter Kyle Reece) and Linda Hamilton (as the young woman Sarah Connor) are engaging and poignant. At every level, the cast and crew did a wonderful job. The success of this movie – especially as a VHS release throughout the latter half of the 1980’s – led to significant interest in a sequel. And 1991’s “Terminator 2” continued the story – presenting us with a perfect complement to the 1984 original. Yet, as occurs when a franchise is successful, further sequels have been made: “Terminator 3” (2003), “Terminator Salvation” (2009), and “Terminator Genisys” (2015). While none of the latter three films are as good as the initial two instalments, there are some great moments to be had watching them. On Blu-ray, this film looks and sounds as good as it possibly can. It’s obvious that the original filming was not as high-quality as it might have been. Yet in HD the picture is clear and sharp. The audio is also great. There are many ‘bonus features’ included (documentaries, featurettes, photo galleries, commentaries, and so on). As such, I highly recommend it.
