Tilley T5MO Adventure Airflo Hat, UPF 50+ Men's Sun Hat

Tilley builds one tough hat. Since 2003, this makes the sixth hat I've owned from them. As others have said, getting the correct fit is crucial towards making these hats fit right. The tape measure says 7 1/4 for me. That's what I ordered back then in the duck cotton material. They do fit tight and they do need stretched out after washing them. My wife later bought a nylon style in a 7 1/4 and it was just too tight. The hemp style was a 7 1/4 and it fit a little looser. Even after washing it, shrinkage was minimal. But this one, I went with the 7 3/8 and that gave me the "two finger Tilley fit". I wore it the next day doing yard work, sweated like crazy then hand washed it, wrung it out like it was a towel, then shaped the brim back out and hung it over a milk jug to dry. I use the Kirkland brand milk containers from costco because they don't require cutting the top off. Next day the shape is perfect and no shrinkage. This is the lightest Tilley of all I've bought as well as my coolest of all. The hemp comes in second. This hat is going to give me many years of sun protection and keep the sweat out of my eyes. This seller had their name stamped on the warranty card already which I've never seen on any previous warranty cards which I thought was a good thing. I don't think I'll ever have to use it...my twelve year old hats are still going strong. You can't go wiring with these hats.... They are the best out there.

These hats are great. Very durable, machine washable. This is my second one. My first one lasted nearly eight years and survived many spins in the washing machine.

Bought this for my trip to Rome in September. Kept the sun from burning my head and the mesh at the top of the hat allowed my head to breathe. Packable, lightweight, stylish, wrinkle resistant and a strap for windy days. Perfection! Size and fit seem to be spot on

This is an outstanding hat. I had one just like it for many years, can’t remember exactly how many, but probably at least 15. It was my favorite hat by far. Comfortable, cool, good shade, easy to clean (put it in the washing machine). However, it was involved in a terrible, freak accident with my zero turn mower and did not survive the ordeal. I loved that hat. It received a proper burial, after I picked up all the many pieces. Needless to say, I immediately ordered another just like it. I named it Jr. I still experience flashbacks of that terrible day, but Jr is helping me get through it. I highly recommend this hat, but be forewarned…it will become part of the family.

I first want to say that this is a 5 star hat except for it seemed like a factory second with regard to construction. I'll deal with the positive first: The hat is exactly what I've been looking for but failed to find in cheaper options. It feels amazingly good, like an old loved hat I've had for years even though it's brand new. That cotton is just amazing. The fit is loose like is recommended by the maker, and that's a good thing. I didn't understand at first, but when I put it on then I understood. It doesn't flop around loosely, but sits there gently. I'm not sure how they do that, but it's really loose and secure at the same time. The straps are the best I've seen in any hat. They're easy and the hat would stay on in tropical storm winds, I'm pretty sure. The brim is adequate and not quite as big as some, and it's firm enough to stay put in wind. That said, the brim doesn't get in the way of my car seat headrest while I'm driving. The brim just sort of conforms back there comfortably and I don't even notice it. The other things like the pocket and water resistance are good as well. So why, you ask, do I rate the hat 3 stars? I tried wearing the hat for a couple of days and it just about drove me crazy the way the top was put on off center to the brim. I thought at first that I could just deal with it because it's so nice in every other way, but I just can't. When I put it on completely straight on my head, then the front and rear top portions where the vent is were off slightly to my right. By "slightly" I mean that the front of the vent would line up with the corner of my eye instead of the center of my nose. The front of the brim where it extends the most and has the most visible lines of stitching is off to the left by about the same amount - lining up with the corner of my left eye. I really did try to tolerate it and thought I could, but after a couple of days I realize it will drive me crazy. A $95 hat should not drive me crazy with a defect in craftsmanship. I do still love everything else about the hat and I also see all the positive reviews so I'm returning this one and ordering a replacement in hopes it will be put together straight. I'm thankful that Amazon has such an easy return process. I will definitely update the star rating accordingly if the replacement hat is better quality. UPDATE: Two days later I now have my replacement hat. It's still not perfect, but the alignment of sections is much better and within my margin of tolerance. I'm still not giving a full 5 stars since it's still not perfect, this shouldn't have happened in the first place, and my Tilley experience hasn't been without hassle. I've also noticed that my review wasn't the only one over several years that spoke of this same quality control issue. I do however think I'll still love the hat going forward, and I'm happy I purchased it. As a side note, this time the hat was shipped by Amazon in only an envelope and stuffed in my mailbox with all the other mail. It took me a while to work out the resulting deformities. C'mon Amazon . You're usually better than that.

Although this hat is expensive, it’s totally worth the money. The large brim keeps you in the shade, and the ventilation mesh helps keep you cool. I’m a fan of the cotton version, because it works better in the heat. An important detail is to order it at least 1/2 inch (or more) larger than your normal hat size! (I gave away my former hat because it was too tight, especially after you wash it.) If it’s windy the chin strap prevents you from losing it.

Ya había comprado dos Tilley, excelentes aún después de años y uso. Este tiene aumentos para tratar de que quede en forma original y siempre queda arrugado y deforme. Siempre pido 7 3/8 y este, misma talla y está un poco más grande. 😡

My husband now has 3 Tilley hats for various activities and wouldn’t be without them. They protect his ears far better than caps.
