This will easily fit a layer of warm clothes underneath. Black shoes are helpful to complete the look of the faux boots included in this costume. I bought an XL for my 14 year old son. He is 6 ft tall and wears a 36 size pants. Costume is nice and roomy. Love this costume! Worth the price.

I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a costume for Halloween and I needed to be a pirate. Doing so for less than $25 is near impossible when purchasing your costume. This costume is cheap and I'm not sure how many times I'll be able to use it, but it will get the job done this year, which is all I need. I'm not trying to win any costume parties. The shirt is thin and roomy. The sleeve cuffs will definitely help make the sleeves less poofy, but I will need help tying the cuffs. The string also seems to have already begun fraying and seems short, so it may be wise to replace with a shoelace as other reviewers have mentioned. The pants don't have a belt and the one provided with the outfit is super cheap. I'm not sure if I'll wear a real belt underneath it. The pants also don't go all the way down to your ankles so you'll need to wear the boot cuffs or look like a pirate expecting high seas. I don't intend on wearing the bandana, but it's not printed on both sides. No smell mentioned in other reviews for my costume. This also arrived in less than 24 hours which is super helpful considering other costumes wouldn't arrive before Halloween. Overall, I'm happy with the costume for the price. It does what I need and was at a price I was comfortable paying. You get what you pay for and I'm happy they offer this at this price point. I would buy it again for the same purpose.

Let me start with the bottom line: for the price, I think this is a good deal and I'm very happy with it. It fits well and when it is all put together, it looks pretty much like the picture. I bought this for pirate night on a Disney cruise, and I think this will be just fine for that purpose. I put the boot covers over my 3/4 height boots, and unless you are really looking, you can't tell that these are not a real knee-high boots. Now for some of my quibbles. As some other reviews have noted, the material is pretty thin. My wife and I have checked in all kinds of light, and I feel pretty comfortable wearing the top with no undershirt, and only my usual briefs under the pants - nothing shows. Also as others have noted, there is no belt for the pants, only elastic to hold them up, and there are no pockets. That's not all bad. A 16th Century pirate wouldn't have had pockets in his pants, either. I will wear a small bag over my shoulder, just as a pirate would have done. The laces that come with the gauntlets and the shirt are okay, but they don't stay tied too well and the ends tend to fray pretty quickly. I replaced them with some black leather shoe laces that work better and look more authentic. They didn't have nylon in the 16th Century, you know. The belt that comes with the costume just ties in the back. I may choose the replace that, but if I don't, from the front it looks okay, just as it does in the picture. The one big thing about the belt is that the fake buckle is pretty flimsy. I may add some stiffener to to back with a little glue to keep the buckle looking straight and sharp. That will be an easy fix. So, this is obviously not perfect. But with just a very little bit of effort I think this is going to work very well. Only time will tell if it will survive more than one wearing, but for the price, I'm okay even if it doesn't.

This is a difficult product to review. Amazon defines 3 stars as "it's okay" and that's how I feel about this product. I think any fewer stars is too harsh considering the price, but any more stars ignores the fact -- at the end of the day -- this is a cheap Halloween costume not much unlike any other you'd find at a Party Store. And I don't know why the bad quality of these products is a thing to be celebrated. It's OK and it gets the job done. Here is an assessment of each item that comes with the kit: Shirt/Vest combo: The bagginness of the sleeves is saved by the cuffs. I'm fortune that I've been working out over the last year, because if I didn't, even the Small would have been a billowy, sprawling landscape of cloth. This is definitely an item made for the classic Big American. If you are skinny, I hope Extra Small is in stock, and even that might be pushing it. That being said, the quality of the shirt was OK. It was a little hot to wear as the fabric didn't breathe well, but it looked decent enough, which is thankful since it is perhaps the centerpiece of the outfit. Leggings: Not bad. The fit was better than the shirt. Same issue of breathability though. It's not a fabric you would want to wear very often, but for one or two Halloween parties it's fine. Cuffs: These help with the puffiness of the shirt, and they actually look pretty good. One of the better parts of the costume. Belt: This thing is is the lowest point of the costume. I recommend finding an alternative somewhere else. It might as well have been made by a Kindergarten student in art class using construction paper. Bandanna: So-so. The front looks good, but the backside of the fabric is blank. It will likely get turned around during wear, exposing the blank backside, which makes it look cheap (which it is, of course, but it could do a better job of not looking cheap). Boot "Toppers": Eh...Paired with the right shoes/actual boots, they look OK. I lucked out because I have some cheap black boots I wore them with, and it gave them a nice accent. It's fine when you're out in the night of Halloween, but under scrutiny they don't hold up well. CLOSING THOUGHTS: The main thing that gets this item 3 stars is its price. The fact that you get a mostly complete pirate costume for less than $25 is nice. But if I were to do it all over again, I would have planned out my costume more ahead of time and built my costume from scratch. It would have looked better. That being said, this was a good item to order in a pinch. I needed a costume quickly, and quickly I received it at a reasonable price. So it earns 3 stars mostly for convenience and value. But nothing in life is free, and the cost of that value is the quality. It suffers to get to that price point. So as long as you know what you're getting into, this can be an OK purchase.

First of all, let me just say I looked at too many costumes to count for my husband, and finally decided on this one. We are dressing up for pirate night on our upcoming Disney cruise and I wanted something cool, but not too expensive. My DH is a bodybuilder and has an enormous chest so I had to order this plus size for him, which fit him on top perfectly, however be advised the pants are HUGE! This isn't an issue for me because the waist is elastic and I'm just going to take them in a bit for a better fit. The other reviews are right about the belt, it's definately a piece of crap, (barely long enough to tie on in the back), but it still looks good with the rest of the costume. The wrist cuffs are very cool looking on as are the boot covers. Overall you can't beat this one for the price. (WARNING: I made the mistake of purchasing the Jack Sparrow bandana with dreds to go with this costume and it looks terrible. The hair attached to the bandana is almost BLONDE not black as pictured!!!) I definately give this costume 5 stars!!!

Very good product for the money. There are some reviews saying the quality is poor. It's not great, but it's $25. It does the job great for a few wearings. Also, while the quality isn't great, it does look really good, which is important for something you'll wear once or twice. It does seem to run really big though, so size down.

A lot of your opinion on this costume may come down to what you expect to get for $25. I found the exact same costume in some local party/costume shops for $40+, so I was extremely happy with this for $25. Yes, the "belt buckle" is a cheap piece of plastic as are the "boot flaps," but the puffy shirt and pants along with the gauntlets were a great base for my costume and allowed me to accentuate with my own touches. I bought this for Pirate Night on a Disney Cruise, so it really was meant for a one time use, but I still have it just in case. Several reviews made reference to a strong odor and some ink/dye running on their costumes. I will agree that there is a strong smell upon opening the package. I assumed it had something to do with the dyes in the costume, but I gave it a quick shot of Febreze and let it hang out overnight and it was good to go. There did appear to be a little dye smeared on the inside of the packaging, but never saw any on the costume or myself after wearing it. The fabric is super-thin. I chose to wear a t-shirt and shorts under the costume more for comfort than anything. I am 6'1" and 230 lbs with a 38 waist. I ordered the XL and the pants were really loose. I tightened them up a bit, but had to keep pulling them up. The shirt was a little large, but I preferred that. It gave that "puffy" pirate look. I probably could've gone down a size on everything, but I tend to order up a size when I order clothes online. There is an assumption with this costume maker that you will be wearing boots, so they make the pants short! They only came down to my shins. I didn't wear boots and just went with flip-flops. You could probably cut the bottoms of the legs and give it that ragged look if you wanted. But just know that you'll probably need boots to cover your legs. Overall, I was more than happy with the costume. For what I needed, it was more than adequate and a good value.
