This is the one you need if you're using an SDRPlay RSP
If you're planning to use an RSP-2, this is the model SAWBIRD you need. There is different model which costs $2 more and looks very similar which is what you probably want if you're using an NESDR SMARTee or SMARTee xtr. The difference? This SAWBIRD claims 20 db gain and requires only 30 ma The other model claims 30db but pulls 180 ma SDRPlay RSP-2 will only delivers I think it's 100 or 150 ma--then it crowbars; in any case, it's not enough to power the 30 db SAWBIRD NESDR SMARTee does provide enough current for the 30db model Make sure you get the right combo of SDR and SAWBIRD

It made all the difference!
Moving from a wide and LNA to a staged with filter made all the difference when receiving GOES satellites

I'm a nooelec fan
What can I say I guess I am a nooelec fan. So far I like every nooelec item I have purchased. I had a little trouble figuring out where the in and out was but after a quick web search I found it.

Susceptible to interfearance
Seems to be very susceptible to interference from nearby 4G/5G bands rendering it nearly useless if you're in a noisier RF environment since cellular signals seem to drown out the signal from the Satellite. Get the SAWbird+ GOES instead, it doesn't seem to have the same problem.

Great product but NEEDS INSTRUCTIONS in the package!!!!
I now have 5 GOES SAWbirds and like them very much. I am the author of a program to receive GOES GRB - "GRB Imager for Windows" (free). The SAWbirds work very well and I don't think reception would be possible without them. You can also use these to receive "HRIT". But I agree with the other reviewer here (JohnG) that there should be a marking on the case to show which side is DC+Output and which side is Input, or a simple instruction sheet. I had to take mine apart to figure that out! It should be real easy for Nooelec to mark the DC+Output side. Or include a small sheet of paper explaining this. If this product included a simple, small instruction sheet I would give it 5 stars instead of 4. To be clear, the side with the LED is DC+Output. I power mine with 5V of power from a bias tee at the computer. I power the bias tee using the black (-) and red (+) wires from a USB cable. The power adapter is '+' center and '-' outer conductor (shield). Also, the metal case is very nice and helps protect the electronics. But it is not rain proof and you cannot leave it outdoors on your satellite dish without additional protection. I tried that and rain found its way inside. Will add some waterproof sealant and it should be fine. I hope this review helps people make an informed purchase decision and fills the gap until an instruction sheet is added.

No instructions or specs!
I received what was shown in the items picture plus a cable with a USB connector on one end and an unknown size female barrel connector on the other. I suppose that this cable is to power the device from some unknown type of power supply of some unknown voltage. There were no instructions or diagrams included with the shipment. There are no markings on the unit to show which SMA connector is the input and output. Anyone know the answers to these questions? Please don't respond with "I assume or it should be". If you don't know please don't try and answer. 1 Which SMA connector is the input from the antenna. 2 If the unit is powered from the usb port will the DC voltage be present on either SMA port. 3 When using the included power adapter cable, what is the ideal input voltage and what is the polarity. 4 What is the ideal input voltage for the USB port. 5 What are the working temperature limits of the unit. It would have been nice to get this information with the unit.
