The Impressionists

"The impressionists" by William Gaunt has beautiful illustrations and provides excellent commentaries on the artists' works. It also gives the back stories on some of the artworks, the artists and who influenced their style. I had admired this book in a library I visited while on vacation and was delighted to add this book to my own library.

Great book with all the great masterpieces of Impressionism. The whole gamut of impressionist painters and only their best works are included. A great investment.

size of book; 10 1/4 x 12 1/4"......book has 296 pages.......many of the color photos of the art work, are common paintings seen in many other books......there are full page and half page photos of the art throughout the book.......

The many illustrations are very good for the time when the book was first published (1970). Undoubtedly, many of the paintings depicted are well known, but I have also found some surprises.The number of plates is 107, each accompanied by a short text on the facing page. However, there is an extensive introduction to the subject of Impressionism with almost 50 pages of text.A recommendable book to enjoy and get started in Impressionism.

A lovely big book (10" X 12") with many full page paintings and just enough information on each one. A good selection of artists are represented and all the most popular paintings are included with a few surprises. First third of the book is text on the Impressionists so it probably offers something for everyone, from serious scholars to pure enjoyment seekers.

Excellent volume on the Impressionists with lots of great reproductions of their work. Great value and recommended

My wife and I are attending classes on contemporary art. This book was of great help with a wide range of information.

Informative and with full page colour illustrations. Very pleased.
