Good tool for sharpening shovels, axes, hatchets
This Sharpal 216 sharpener is great for my outdoor and garden tools. It is used like any other puck type hone, but has the advantage of staying flat even after sharpening multiple tools. The coarse grit works quickly on surfaces like a dull shovel edge or a dull axe. I also used it to sharpen my hoe and a adze. For shovels and hoes, I find that the coarse 220 grit side is all I need to use. No sense putting a razor edge on a tool that will be pounded into dirt. The fine grit side is great for putting a very sharp edge on chopping blades like my axe and hatchet. I like the way the sharpening disc has a small notch for locating it on the bright plastic handle. The disc is held onto the handle securely with a small but powerful magnet. The notch fits into a small plastic nib so that when the disc is lowered onto the handle, it snaps perfectly centered on the handle. Both sides of the disc are clearly marked with their grit, although it is pretty obvious which is coarse and which is fine. By the way, some brands of diamond hones start with a relatively rough surface, even if it is supposed to be a fine grit. The Sharpal surface is different in that it starts at its specified grit coarseness (or fineness) and retains that same grit level from first use on. If you use ceramic or natural water stones for knife sharpening, you can use this disc to create a slurry on the stone. This is an extra bonus feature. I have an extensive collection of Japanese water stones, and some came with nagura stones for creating a slurry, but the nagura stones are too low a grit to make an acceptable slurry. The Sharpal 216N raises a slurry from the parent stone, which is always the perfect grittiness slurry for my purposes.

Fast and easy, great results
I know how to sharpen a knife well, but am a novice at sharpening an axe or hatchet. I was pretty pleased that while using this tool I easily put a hair shaving edge on my hatchet and boys axe in just a few minutes time with minimal effort. I was looking for a lansky puck sharpener because it's the one every one recommended to me but Amazon was sold out and I found this instead. It was a little more expensive but I'm glad I got this instead. For one, its designed so that your fingers are protected from the axe while you sharpen so it reduces the likelihood of injury. Second, the diamond grit disk is easy to use and easy to clean and doesn't require honing oil or lubricant. I've fumbled around with other methods before but I have never gotten my axe heads shaving sharp before and now I get a perfect edge every time.

Safe for the fingers and knuckles
I’m a fan of SHARPAL products and find most of the sharpeners I've purchased over the years to be solid good quality. This multi purpose diamond stone is pretty nifty and easy to hold. I have several axes / hatchets, practical use and tactical. Not like traditional axe sharpening stones, I found the SHARPAL to be easier to work different angles and strokes to get the edge I want. It did a pretty good job but, not razor sharp like I want. The “razor sharp” edges I like is for my tactical axes. Flipping the grit sides is pretty easy and snaps in so there’s nothing “wonky”, though I wonder if it will degrade overtime or quickly if flipping sides regularly. It looks and feels solid so I hoping it will last a while before needing to replace it. The only thing I wished were an option would be additional stone grit ranges you could purchase separately. I find the 220 grit side too gritty for my purpose. If I need to fix a burr on a axe I generally use a filer, which is easier to be more precise. If this SHARPAL axe stone was 300 grit instead of 220 and there was options to purchase of plates with different grits I would have given the diamond stone 5 stars instead of 4. Overall I like this product and the carrying pouch is pretty nice.

Great for drawknives.
600 grit is the optimal sharpness for wood cutting tools. Any higher and you're wasting time because it'll dull, and less and you won't get a glassy finish on the work piece. It's not too heavy to carry around with you, and the little bag it comes in makes it easy to blindly grab if you hang it on a backpack or an overalls strap. It's very convenient to store it otherwise, if you aren't using the bag. For the price, I highly recommend this diamond stone. Very good value for the price.

Poor quality
Great idea, poor quality.. no problem with the fine side but the coarse side is not. It varies from coarse to something close to fine. My email to the seller is unanswered.

Good
I was sceptical about this, but it created a great convex edge on my splitting axe! Bonus that you don’t need water.
