Do these lids rust like the Ball lids eventually do?

After three years I've not found any of mine to rust, they all work good for my purpose -- I do no canning, I just use these daily to seal overnight oat jars and dressings and they all have been perfectly watertight for three years.  I do expect that they will eventually.

Question 2

Are these leak proof? Could I shake a jar of liquid with these lids and not spill any?

While I do no canning, these lids are absolutely my preferred means of leak proofing overnight oats, salad dressings, etc. and have never had one fail, never a single leak after 3 years of daily use.  For my needs, I just need a single leak proof lid -- not a two part lid and ring, not a plastic screw-on that works fine for storage of dry goods but leaks liquids, and not the two part lid and silicone seal that work but are a pain to keep together.  These are the absolute best for filling an overnight oat jar with hemp milk, screwing on the single lid, and taking it to work while it gets jostled around in the bag, in the car, in the office and never having to worry about it leaking.  Tops in my book.

Question 3

Can anyone tell me why these lids will bulge and actually "tent" after being in the canner? Could I be securing them too tightly?

Gas solubility is a function of pressure and temperature. They are bulging during the heating process because gas such as air or carbon dioxide are coming out of solution during heating and they have nowhere to go, so the pressure forces the lid to bulge.  You may be correct in your suspicion that if you over tighten the lids, gas cannot bypass and escape. You need to tighten only enough to prevent liquid from leaking into the jar, but not so much that excessive gas pressure build up cannot be relieved.
