This Pen Is Incredible, Especially With Fine Tip Black Gel Refills!
Really great pen that is nice with fine tip black gel refills, with the only issue is that sometimes it needs pliers to open if it is too stiff (keep those with you maybe!). I clearly clarify I think there’s degrees of possibly reasonable or unreasonable suspicion some have around what pen manufacturers do and this whole culture around writing equipment, however I’m certainly impressed with the weight and style of this pen. In actual fact, ignoring pens and stationery seems to be a trend for people to sleepwalk into resulting in an own goal, even though nice pens clearly can help people enjoy the activity of glyphing (Inb4 wrong phrase) which is the activity of creating alphabet/symbology that people understand, essentially “writing ideas down” to generate degrees of truth, truths, math, etc.

There is a play in the mechanism.
Ok, so firstly I love the quality of Rotring and all, but if you are a bit pedantic - you will hate the fact that refill is not perfectly still in the barrel of the pen - it MOVES slightly :) Yes - this is a fact barrel is slightly too big and so as you write you will hear some clicks and squeals and squeaks caused by movement of the refill inside. Its easy to sort out if you don't mind - ( i don't ) - by giving a refill a single wrap in sellotape or simple writing paper stripe. It absolutely sorts out the problem and fixes the pen rendering it dead silent, not affecting retracting mechanism. Overall pen is amazing quality and it feels like it will last centuries :) Probably also most comfortable pen on the market - "whatever weather" Its great to write on your desk , or on the bench in the park in the rain - will not slip off your hands. Hand feels relaxed after hours of writing ( i do write crazy A LOT ) and retracting mechanism is absolute genius. So if you can overlook the initial "fix" you will never buy any other pen I guarantee you that lol

Great pen!
100% original, made in Japan. Just as it should be. Weight, material, texture, dimensions, packaging, everything is correct. I previously came across a silver good fake, but I sent it back, exchanging it for this model. This is the second one. And it is just as it should be, even cheaper than the silver one. Nothing will turn on in your pocket, the end is rounded so it won't make a hole, it is narrow and metal so it is perfect for a pocket notebook. I recommend it. It's a class of its own, nothing to add or subtract. I only changed the refill to 0.5 gel Parker because I like it. Great pen.

Excellent pen.
This pen is very comfortable to use and the retractable tip mechanism is very smooth. I purchased this pen after using two Rotring 800+ mechanical pencils for years and after seeing there was also a pen with the same design I had to have it. The only downside to the pen was the ink cartridge. After about two days of use, it stopped working. This may be due to a faulty refill or maybe the pen had been sitting in a depot for an extended period of time. This wouldn't stop me purchasing this pen again though.

My new everyday writer
Gorgeous pen. I was concered by reviews saying it rattled. I am using an OHTO needlepoint and having no issues. The narrow barrel tip works well with a needlepoint because the thicker barrel doesn't obscure the tip. I usually do not like heavy knurling on metal pens but Rotring have this spot on - grippy but not abrasive.

Love the design. But not super comfortable.
I love the design and build of the 800 series. I mainly use this pen for taking notes and signing documents, so it doesn't get tonnes of heavy use. I think that if you have big (or maybe even normal mens hands...) then you would find this pen to be quite uncomfortable if you're writing pages upon pages. As the grip is quite narrow and the hexagonal shape can dig into your hand (for me its my thumb). YMMV. However, if you're not going to be using it for that then you will likely love this pen. The twist mechanism is really nice. I haven't had any issues with it yet and find it smooth and easy to operate. And with a bit of practice can do it with one hand no problem. Would recommend 10/10 (If you can get is discounted, as its quite expensive at rrp)

Picking it up from the packaging, you can instantly feel the difference compared to even "premium EDC pens". The heft is great, ink writes well, and overall feels really satisfying to hold. Very pleased so far. Time will tell if Rotring's durability is really as good as people claim it to be.

Fair price for high end product.

I read the reviews about the Rotring 800 and went back and forth between it and the 600. After researching and reading about them both, I decided to go for the 800. I have owned a Rotring pencil for almost 30 years and enjoy it but never liked the protruding tube that holds the lead. I've poked myself a few times. That helped to decide on the 800. Plus, I wanted a decent pen and to have a matching set (pen and pencil) was attractive. I have a Waterman Perspective and enjoy it for my contemplative writing. It is almost twice the weight of the Rotring 800 and is superbly balanced. The 800 is my go-to pen. I use it for work and general notes. Smooth as silk, doesn't not rattle as others have mentioned with theirs. Love the balance of it and tho it has some weight, it's not heavy. I read of one person's review elsewhere that the 800 was heavy and they didn't like it. I suspect they might get a hernia lifting a spoon in that case. Of course, the 800 writes much better than a spoon and will not cause hernias or other bodily ailments unless you grip the pen as tight as a life-saving rope. The knurling (i.e., rough texture) for the grip area is just right (for moi): offers enough anti-slip grip without being abrasive. Black ink isn't my fave, but I can live with it for now. Once I use it up, I'll check out something in the blue spectrum, like jazz. Smooth operation, from writing to the twist mechanism to open or close the pen point. And no pokey points to pin your nipple, er, chest. Clips on tightly. Happy writer here.
