McCormick Gourmet California Lemon Peel, 1.5 Oz

I’ve used this before, it’s excellent in recipes. My grocery store stopped carrying it and I was broken hearted. It is excellent for cookies, baking, and other dishes. While fresh it often preferred, lemons might not be in season and cost can be high. This is effective, the color, aroma and flavor work well. I have used in biscotti and other Italian recipes that call for quite a bit of zest.

I ordered this for, of all things, a soap recipe. I found the color very pleasant, the bits very uniform, and the price very attractive. I did not find them very aromatic, hence the 4 stars. My finished recipe really didn’t have any distinctly lemony scent. Perhaps it will be more evident if I use it in food.

Used to make lemon sauce that I used for bread pudding and to make lemon cheesecake. Flavor and taste are great

I use California lemon peel as an ingredient for my family’s favorite steak seasoning so we go through it pretty fast. However, it is hard to find, only one store in my area carries it but for some reason it’s very expensive. I’m grateful I can find the same exact lemon peel that I use at a reasonable price. Fast shipping too.

When I opened the jar and smelled the contents, the “ lemon zest” had a chemical smell. No lemon or citrus at all. I thought it may have needed some hydration so I added some to a few drops of water. Nothing. No aroma at all. I then put a few pieces on my tongue. Again, no lemon or even citrus taste. No chemical taste either, just no flavor at all. Don’t waste your money. ADDITION: I have contacted McCormick about this and they responded quickly with questions. They offered to send me an envelope and shipping label so I can send it back. Also have said they will send a gift card to reimburse me. I’ll add to this review later with the result of all this. Addition: McCormick did send me a gift card and a self-addressed, prepaid envelope in which to return the product. I sent it back and have heard nothing further from them. I don’t think they will let me know what they determined had happened. But at least they reimbursed me for it.
