Complete GMAT Strategy Guide Set (Manhattan Prep GMAT Strategy Guides)

The 6th edition has better structure in quant and substantial improvements in Verbal. See my comparison vs. 5th edition below. If you are just starting out with GMAT prep - get this bundle; it's a good deal for the Manhattan GMAT Guides (separately they cost close to $150). These books don't emphasize tricks or easy ways to 700+ score, instead they methodically cover areas tested, and should be pretty much all you will need (besides the Official Guides - see below for links). If this is above your budget or you are in a rush, then would recommend you pick the best of the pack: - The GMAT Roadmap Great collection of wisdom (see my review of this book) - Number Properties Guide (condensed overview of Arithmetic and strategies for saving time/solving questions more effectively) - Word Propblems Guide (includes some of the hardest topics - probability, combinations, and statistics) - Sentence Correction (the best book out there on SC) - Critical Reasoning (only second to PowerScore CR but by a slim margin) - Reading Comprehension - a significantly revised book (there are no other dedicated RC books on market really) Between these 5 books you should have 80-90% of the GMAT covered and the rest could be picked up from the remaining books and practice with the Official Guides. You can throw in a Kaplan Premier as well - a good intro to GMAT book with 6 free GMAT Tets. It is a good starter book to get your feet wet, but definitely not a must. To make the most use out of the MGMAT guides, you will need the Official Guide 20015 and also OG Verbal 2nd and OG Quant 2nd editions are recommended. The guides refer to these 3 books for additional practice questions. If you own previous versions of the Official Guide books, you can use those too with a translation table available from MGMAT's website. *** Each book comes with access to 6 online gmat tests and additional question banks. Don't spend money on these as they are pricey ($40 for 6 tests on the MGMAT website). Also, if you are new to the GMAT, download 2 official practice tests from GMAC and take one of them before you start prepping to get your level - very helpful to track your progress along the way but don't waste these tests - they use real retired gmat questions and though it is possible to recycle them (there are close to 900 questions in the banks), would recommend you use something less valuable for your practice such as MGMAT tests included with these books). One more thing, don't rush into questions and tests - you will only hurt your self confidence, instead methodically cover each math and verbal topic and only after you are done with each of the sections move on to take the tests (take math only after you are done with math and verbal only after done with verbal). Final word of advice - the main mistake (esp in verbal) is not following strategies. Whichever books or strategies you use (they are all pretty similar between MGMAT, PowerScore, and Kaplan) - follow them EXACTLY. These people are getting big bucks to develop methods to improve score and maximize performance - don't try to be smarter and change things around. Unless you are scoring 750+, I would follow each step of the strategy to the "T". If the book says to read the CR question twice, then that's what you do even though it may seem that it is faster to read it once - trust me, there is a reason why you read it twice. If you want to get 700+ and not worry about the GMAT, stick to the strategies and keep creativity low. ~~~ Comparison of the 5th edition vs 6th edition. ~~~ I have gone through all of the books and here is how it looks: Overall, all books have undergone some degree of updating; not just slapping a new cover as some providers do, so you will be better of buying the 6th if you are deciding. If you own the 5th edition already, I would recommend getting only the IR and RC books, however as they have undergone the most transformation. The rest is organized better (more logical); it will help those who are short on time; the pages now also have more graphs, charts, and cheat sheets at the end (a number of books added this feature including Geometry and CR). IR - substantial changes and improvements - the book needed them, and is now split by question type and organized a lot better Quant - mostly minor updates (less than 10% new content) RC - Major update SC - Restructure with the main difference is that the idiom section is cut down and rewrite of most chapters (more than 20% of content updated) CR - Improvements in text-heavy areas that put people to sleep before. Cheat sheets added after each chapter. I do like pre-thinking, however, in CR, so I still feel that CR book can be improved. Hopefully this will get you started. This GMAT prep book is a game-changer! Its clear, structured approach and tons of practice questions powered my self-study to a score that landed me at UCLA! Engaging, effective, and packed with strategies, it’s the ultimate tool for acing the GMAT on your own terms!

Quick disclaimer, I am returning to school professional (almost 10 years from college and 15+ from standardized testing). Purchased the set or studying for the GMAT to attend business school in the fall. Was on a little bit of a time crunch with work and life. The test books are very comprehensive. The best is the 1st book that explains the GMAT. The other books are broken down into different sections of the test. The math sections give you critical tips and tricks to break down the problems, remember your taking this test without the use of modern inventions like calculators or smartphones. The booklets come with access to more tests and the ability to practice online with the tests that are set up just like the actual test. I liked that ability to take the tests online and take the ability to stop the test and resume in case life gets in the way of taking the practice exam. The 5th star would be there if there was more access to the online features. Remember that your buying a test prep course's books. You won't be getting access to everything on the website or access to the classes that they have if you take a MP class. Also pretty sure that their grading scale gives you a worst case scenario, a lot of the reviews show you how the test is adaptive and makes a huge difference to how the scores. My test scores on the MP website were showing me almost 150 points less than what I got on the GMAT when I took it. My opinion, Manhattan Prep teaches you to take the test, less about the actual learning that would help long term for students with more time. I would buy the first book that explains the GMAT and then buy a practice test book to keep you going. The classes that were accessible for a trial seemed to teach more ways to guess and accomplish the test by If your going to spend the time and take a test prep course, then grab this test set. On a side note a friend of mine bought only the Math section books to strengthen that section and it worked well for him, just an idea for those out there.

This gives so many amazing tips for test-takers to truly realize what the GMAT is all about: Reasoning. Inevitably, as you go through GMAT practice problems, you will quickly realize that you are familiarizing yourself with the test/ And you will inevitably come to the conclusion that, like most tests, taking the GMAT is a skill in itself. This guide helps you go through problems in step-by-step ways, and offers approaches to certain types of problems as well. Specifically, the approach to Data Sufficiency has completely transformed my approach to Data sufficiency and made it one of my stronger subjects. Highly recommend reading through it all as it provides valuable information on what you will see. Although, I do wish more practice problems were provided.

So far I am blown away by this set. I've read the Algebra, Data Sufficiency, and Sentence Correction books so far and my practice sets have already improved significantly. The tips, tricks, and applicable strategy that these books offer make it worth the price tag. The book also has a quick problem set at the end of each chapter to help reinforce concepts. Consistency is key with these things, so it's best to create a study schedule and stick to it. These books are thin enough that you can easily fit one or two in your work/travel bag. I would 100% recommend this product to anyone who needs to prep for the GMAT.

My initial reaction after reading book 0 is that I'm kind of annoyed that I spent $160 on these books and I keep getting refered to other books - like fundamentals of GMAT prep and the Official GMAT Guide. Maybe I should have done more research. I am still very much optimistic, though based on the other reviews, and I will update when I am done with the materials for a more accurate review.

I bought the Manhattan Prep strategy guide set after being frustrated with other books, tutors, and courses that focus too much on the strategy one should take when approaching the exam and not enough on the actual content that the exam tests. I was looking for a product that covered all of the topics and material that I would be tested on and didn't rely on tricks and shortcuts. This set of books was EXACTLY what I was looking for and needed! I read all of the books, did most of the practice problems, and took 4 of the practice tests over a six week period and scored a 740! As long as you are willing to put in the time (and it will require A LOT of time to diligently get through this material, I spent a minimum of an hour a day for six straight weeks), this guide will absolutely improve your score. I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone looking to drill down on the actual content of the GMAT to improve their score.

Very helpful book series. Overall used these books along with the Official Guide books and managed to get a 760. While many have said to use the sentence correction book extensively, I found there to be too many rules and considering I studied for under 2 months I did not have time to go into detail with sentence correction. The critical reading book was very helpful to me and the math books were overall good. The book with the integrated reasoning and essay info was helpful as I spent under an hour on it and did well on both those sections. Definitely read the sample essay in the essay section as it helps to get an idea how to write the essay.

It took me about 2 months to go through the material and I feel more prepared and comfortable with the GMAT OG questions. Without a doubt, you still need the official guide (OG) books, but this goes into so much detail and helped me to understand every concept on the GMAT. I'm aiming for a top score and this book really provides sufficient details. It even tells you which sections have more challenging concepts and whether you should invest the time into studying it. The OG books don't go into any detail about why you get a question wrong, so having this to complement the OG questions is amazing. Well worth the price! Wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Think of the investment for MBA school; a couple of books for a much higher GMAT score (and potentially scholarships!) is well worth the investment.

These strategy guides are just awesome and so helpful. Also, the foundation of math guide is helpful to brush up on the my math skills.
