Keep your system pressure under control, around 60 psi max, with a water pressure regulator and good sized hot water heater expansion tank. And the filter casing will last 10+ years. The small valve in the top of this filter casing does not deal well in higher pressure systems, nor does the other electronically controlled valves in you ice maker, dishwasher or clothes washer.

The first one of these I had installed - it had to electrically grounded or something - lasted two years and then, while I was away for two weeks, cracked and flooded my basement. The water company gave me a credit, but I didn't think to ask OMNI for a replacement unit. I did replace it with the same and the second has worked great, very easy to change the filters now that I have the hang of it, I have never had a problem of leaks (knock on wood). It has come to the end of it's 5 year life, it's doing great but I want to replace it now before it might crack and flood my basement again!

I install this as a pre-filter for an under-the-sink filter for my kitchen. I bought it when it has a special pricing promotion and seems like a very good value. This needs a lot more torque than the regular 3/8" kitchen faucet connections. I needed to wrap the Teflon tape 6 times on the brass connection (not included) and really screwed it on to stop the leaks (3 or 4 times of Teflon tape were not enough). I then placed both of my filters in a deep pan with an automatic leak sensor (also purchased on Amazon) to alert me of any water leaks. Since this is in the kitchen (where I spend a lot of time in every day anyway), I also check on it every so often to make sure there is no leak. So far so good.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I have used the basic same type of filter in the past. The seals finally gave up. So why not go with one that worked in the past.

Good build quality but personally don't like the limited valve at the top. Thought the unit was expensive a year ago. Now that its 25% more expensive I am looking elsewhere. Typical big company playing on their name for a premium price while delivering very standard product quality to the customer.

This was a replacement for a much older model by same manufacturer. A huge improvement over the older model. Required minor piping mods but well worth it. This filter cup does not require excessive tightening like it predecessor to prevent leaks. Hand tight does the trick. Others have left review saying it leaks. But after going through two filter changes, I have no leaks. I suspect that changing the o-ring about once a year will be required, but that's usually the case with most o-ring seals, and o-rings are not expensive. I actually had two on hand from my old o-ring kits that were not required on the older model. In addition, the selector valve has been much improved and much easier to operate. No special tool to turn valve, and it is made so that it can be easily cleaned when hard-water deposits gum up the works. The older model had to be just thrown away when that happened (I went through 3 over the past several years). I also like the fact that the cup is depressurized automatically when the valve is turned to off. If you're looking for a replacement or a first-time use, I highly recommend this brand and model. You won't be disappointed.

The unit arrived early. It was easy to install with the installation instructions. Being able to see the condition of the filter through the see through case is very helpful.
