can you open the whole lid to get larger items in

Yes the whole lid lifts off so you can get bigger items in no problem but you can flip up one side or the other as well. The one we have isn’t grey velvet like the solid lid version - it’s a grey matt linen type fabric but good quality and easy to clean. Hope that all helps.
