Great stuff!
I wanted to use this a few times before writing this review. I used it on totally dry hair and towel dried hair. I found it worked better applying it to damp hair. I have a pixie cut. Let me say less is more. First I washed my hands under very warm water to warm them up. The warmth helped soften the clay in the palm of my hands. I dried my hair as usual. The volume and fulness I got was a real surprise. Using it on dry hair it wanted to clump the hair up and felt sticky. The smell is very faint but pleasant and fades fast.

Holds well
Holds well. But flexible. Not crunchy.

Travel Sized, Premium Priced
Exact quality of product of the traditional full size version. Perfect for travel but value is questionable. If you're looking for a smaller form factor of your full size Layrite, this is for you! Same as the full size, this has great hold, matte application, and a decent scent. Perfect for shorter hair styles.

Great hair product!
Been using this Layrite product for years now. Definitely gives the Matte finish look and doesn't make the hair rock hard which I prefer. Highly recommend!

Yes worth the price
I was hesitant to spend the 20+ dollars on the 4.25oz version so I tried the smaller 1.5oz for less out of pocket to try it. In short I love this product! I have 2-3 inch hair and a little goes a long way for me, it goes on nicely has a nice vanilla smell, doesn’t feel real greasy or waxy, it has above average hold and rinses out pretty well without soap. I have considered this product several times over the years but the price kept me away but now I wish I had tried it sooner, because it out performs a lot of the budget-upper budget options and is worth the price.

Didn't work for me. Looked more greasy than matte.
I have a good volume of hair, but the texture of the strands is pretty fine. For years I've used Erratic clay by ICE/Joico, and it held my short, fairly straight hair in the sort of messy, slightly spiky style I like without overly weighing it down. Sadly, it was discontinued, so I thought I'd try this product. At first it seemed promising, as it was nearly as tacky on my hands as the old clay. Unfortunately, it had a lot less hold, and when I added a bit more to try to get some shape, it ended up making my hair look weighted down and kind of greasy. Maybe it would work better for someone with thicker hair with more curl trying to do something like a pompadour, but it didn't work for me applied on either wet or dry hair. YMMV. The scent was pretty nice, although it got a bit cloying after a bit. I'll be looking for a drier formula with no petrolatum. ** EDIT: I found the trick for me was to mix a little bit of this with a dry hair volumizing powder. I can now use it, but again, it all depends on your hair type. **

The scent alone is worth it!
Man it smells great! It’s also a really good clay pomade. Easy to use goes in and holds strong, if you need a touch up it can be done with a little bit of water and fingers run through your hair. Did I mention the smell?

Bueno pero no de fijación extrema
Tengo el pelo chino ondulado, de fijación le doy un 6/10. El producto es bueno, ligero y se lava fácil.

Used different amount yet couldn’t hold at all. Makes hair feel greasy after that. Product was received dented like this.

Great Stuff
Hard to remove from fingers and must shampoo hair, but it’s sooo worth it. This stuff hold your hair in place just the way you want it without giving it a high shine. Good for low porosity and dense hair that seems too thick to stay up.

Strong Hold and Natural Matte Finish
This styling clay is designed to keep hair in place with a firm hold and a natural matte finish. It comes in a compact container, and even though it looks small, only a small amount is needed per use. I apply it two to three times a week, and it has lasted much longer than I expected. The texture is easy to work into the hair, and it helps shape the style without leaving shine or a heavy feel. I chose this product after it was recommended to me, and it has performed consistently well for creating a controlled, clean look. The hold lasts throughout the day, and it keeps the hair looking neat while still allowing some flexibility. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are prone to dryness or dandruff, using it daily may increase scalp dryness. This has happened to me, so I prefer to use it on alternating days. Aside from that, it has been a reliable product for maintaining a matte, structured hairstyle.
