Kodiak Furniture Phoenix Futon With Storage Drawers, Suede Gray

This is a really nice futon. It looks great and is pretty easy to assemble. It is quite comfortable and the two drawers underneath are a bonus. And believe it or not, it is made of real, beautiful wood !!!

Assembly took about 1 hour but allow 2 hours if you are relatively inexperienced. Instructions are clear and you basically match up the color dots on the wood pieces (not sure how well this works if you are color blind, but the pieces are also numbered and those numbers appear in the instructions too). During insertion of the folding bed section into the frame, you need a helper. The rest of the assembly is an easy one-person job. The sofa-bed looks nice, the futon itself is plush and very comfortable. Overall appearance is hard to fault and matches description / photos. Only two minor points of criticism. The two holes pre-drilled in one cross-member were filled with wax. Easily scraped out so only a momentary inconvenience. The sofa-bed is prone to creaking - even when my 110 lb wife sits down on it. I might, at some future moment, disassemble the sofa-bed and use epoxy (such as JB-Weld) in addition to the bolts. The unit is sturdy and I believe the creaking emanates from the joins. The wood varnish and futon are 'gassing' which results in a not-unpleasant but noticeable odor. From experience this will dissipate over time. Overall this piece of furniture did not disappoint. The components are marked as 'made in Indonesia' which seems to contradict other reviews which claim 'made in America'. Yes, I would recommend to friends and family in need of a sofa-bed (possibly in a smaller guest bedroom?).

Sturdy, heavy & well made piece of furniture. Love the storage drawers. Mattress needs a little adjusting to get it to fit properly. Difficult for me to get it back into the upright position but my son has no problem. Bought it mainly for my son to sleep on while he is here for the winter months. He said it's very comfortable to sleep on. He assembled it very quickly even without watching the video, then just watched the video just to make sure it was done properly. I did have to contact Klondike about the mattress and Mike was very pleasant and helpful. It seemed to solve everything. Anyone who purchases this futon should be extremely satisfied.

Overall, this is a great futon bed. It's fairly easy to assemble, and appears to be manufactured well. The pop-up end tables are fairly sturdy. I do recommend a thicker mattress for it, 8" at minimum. The only flaw is the adjustment from sofa to flat bed is difficult to manage without two people. It's not a weight thing, it's more of a logistical issue, as the back and front need to be manipulated at the same time to prevent slamming the back. As both are rather large and awkward, performing both tasks solo is difficult at best. Other than that, this is a great piece. Last note - the drawers that slide underneath do not have wheels, they slide along the floor. This is fine for laying it flat, but you have to push them under when converting to sofa. Not a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind.

I was amazed by the quality. Rarely do you find anything that is made of solid wood. Here are my takeaways: 1. The finish is flawless. 2. There was no damage whatsoever in shipping 3. The instructions are the best I've ever seen (and I've done a lot of assembling). They organize the parts according to steps - I've always wondered why companies don't do that. It's impossible to get the parts mixed up. 4. They provide spare parts and they're labeled as such so you don't wonder why there are parts left over 5. Only tool required is an allen wrench and they provide multiples so two people can be working at once. 6. The Grey of the futon is a true grey (no blue tone). 7. Drawers fit perfectly. 8. It's a beautiful piece of furniture.

Had a little issue with shipping not getting the cushion on at the same time, but that was a problem with the fedex distribution center. The futon was easy to put together and insanely sturdy, I wasn’t prepared for how heavy and well made this thing was gonna be. And the mattress is very firm and comfortable, I bought the version with the drawers on the bottom and the only thing I would change is that they have tracks instead of being separate from the futon. All in all this is an amazing product with amazing customer service!

This has been the best assembly experience I’ve ever had. Extremely well organized parts and directions with great build quality. Good communication with the seller when I had a question about the drawers being shipped separately from the frame. The futon itself is comfortable and set at a good angle. Fairly easy to go from couch to bed, but easier with two people. The extendable arms are well made and easy to manage. The futon frame looks and feels well made. Highly recommended.
