When you release the hatch it opens itself. Closing takes some strength. Easy to install.

I'm the proud owner of a 1989 Honda Civic DX with only 143,000 miles. This has been one of the best cars I've ever owned but. due to it's age, the struts that hold the hatch back in the up position have finally given up the ghost. I've been using a baseball bat to hold it open but I've gotten whacked more than a few times using this method. The hatch back doesn't seem so heavy until it falls on you. I had priced the struts from a few suppliers and was surprised at how proud they were of them. I finally did what I should have already done and looked on Amazon. I was a little hesitant to order them because of the price ($15-are you kidding me?). I figured I'd give them a try as I could always return them if they didn't work. They work! It took all of 15 minutes to install them and I found that, not only do they hold the hatch open securely, they also lend a gentle push as you raise the hatch. I should have done this ages ago. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

It is not as smooth as I hope for but for its price, it is a great product.

Fits perfect and very strong. 91 civic dx hatch. Way better than the ghetto stick we have been using for years to prop the hatch open

Only lasted a year, losing its strength will need a new one soon.

These worked great on my 1990 Civic hatchback. One was actually strong enough to keep the rear glass up. Excellent packing job on these as well, love the bubble wrap they used. Only downside, they come with the cylinder extended and you really have to get the glass up high in order to bolt the unit on to the car. No amount of hand pressure would get them to move.

Yes they have a 1-year warranty but do you want these to be a yearly maintenance item? I bought these. They did last a year. They're garbage now. I didn't expect to have to replace them every year

Fitment, 1991 Honda Civic hb Si. Length was same as oem, came with pivots which is a nice touch. Installation about 1 minute. Care needed as initial pressure is very high. Hatch door can literally catch you off guard the first few times you open it, excellent replacement.

Purchased these struts for a 1989 Honda CRX rear hatch but they have the incorrect support ends and will not fit.

Arrived very well packaged. They appear well made. The struts are stiffer than the originals ever were. Takes 2 hands to close the hatchback. The cylinder end ball/sockets were a little sloppy - even more than the 32 year old originals. The rod ends were good.
