iSpring WSP50GR Spin Down Sediment Filter, 360 Rotating Head, 50 Micron

Really good sediment filter. I had some fine sediment clog up the injector filter on my softener. I don't have space for the big blue, and needed something vertical. This works perfectly. I also connected a quick connect tube to the bottom and ran it out the basement wall onto my gutter drain for the dry well. This is a nice setup because as it collects sediment you flush the system via the drain and it pushes most sediment out the drain port. That way you only have to remove and clean the reusable metal filter every few months. This product is the only product I could find that fit vertical. The easy flush is a huge bonus. As other say, go heavy on sealing the threads. I used average pipe dope only and I had to remove and use plumber tape plus thicker dope. It leaked with just normal dope. It closed up tight on the second try. It has dual threads too, I went to 3/4 copper with shark bites, I did 1 inch shark bites, but I could have used the inside thread as well for 3/4. My way likely is less flow resistance anyway. This also was easy on my vertical pipes as i had space between the well pump shut off and the first softener shut off,so it's easily isolated and I was to vertically. I also emailed with a filter question after I set it up, and Sean answered the next morning. They even sent me a second filter to try! Thanks Sean! I highly recommend this product.

I use a well for all of our household water needs, a home with 3.5 baths and 5 individuals living and using lots of water. I had a single large whole house water filter, with cartridges that are 10" tall and 4" in diameter. We do not use any water softener and there was nothing between the well pump and the main whole house filter, except for the expansion tank, before I installed the iSpring WSP50GR. I was having to change the whole house filter cartridge ($24 each) every month, instead of the advertised three to six months, due to sediment which restricted water flow. I did research and settled on the iSpring WSP50GR. I am not a plumber, but I am capable, so I was not intimidated to cut the main water line coming into the house to install the iSpring WSP50GR filter. Once installed, we were able to notice the change right away. I could see, through the clear housing, when I needed to simply trust he quarter turn valve, which then back flushes the sediment. I have learned that I need to do this every 4 to 6 days, depending on how much water we use. Even before I can "see" the sediment in the clear housing, we can fell a decrease in water pressure. I go downstairs, back flush the filter for 3 to 5 minutes, with a tube I ran from the bottom of the filter to a slop-sink a few feet away, and once done, the water pressure is back to normal, with an added bonus of now I only have to replace the main filter twice a year. The iSpring WSP50GR paid for itself after less than a year. We have had this installed since September 2020 and it has been great. I have followed the directions and maintenance guidelines, which indicate that the filter housing and stainless steel mesh filter be removed every so often and cleaned. The filter package came with extra o-rings as well, to make this process easier. However, recently, when I did the filter housing and mesh filter maintenance and cleaning, the o-ring was no longer viable as it was stretched out. I thought I still had one left, but I did not. I tried to find out what size o-ring was needed (2" ID btw) but could not find this. I called Nick at iSpring and explained the problem. Nick was kind enough to stand behind the product and he sent me 2 additional o-rings, which were delivered in 2 days, at no added cost to me. So, in review, filter is a money saver. It is easy to install, even for a non-plumber like myself, although if you are not familiar with soldering and plumbing, call a licensed plumber to install this, and it is very easy to use. Oh, and the customer service when you call iSpring, is top notch. Thanks Nick for your attention and great customer service.

I cannot say enough about the iSpring filter system I purchased (Well I am going to say a lot, sorry). I purchased the iSpring WSP50GR. I was a little apprehensive due to the low price, boy was I wrong! I moved to the mountains of Colorado from the suburbs. I now have a well and noticed when I moved in that there was fine black/tan particles in my toilet tanks. I also found the shower heads and sink strainers were partially plugged with the same sediment. Basically everything in the house had sediment in them causing low water pressure. I was also concerned about the amount that was getting into my drains and the possibility of them getting restricted flow. I did extensive research and found this filter system on Amazon. I installed it using shark bite connectors for the copper, thus no need to solder the fittings. It was an easy installation and I had immediate results that were amazing. After cleaning out all the strainers and even the toilet tanks, not my favorite part, everything was now flowing as it should with no sediment issues. It filters the large amount of sediment from my well so efficiently that I have to clean the screen every week, this is not difficult as it can be done in under 30 seconds. After about a year I wanted to replace the filter as I lean toward the OCD spectrum. I could not find the included wrench to change the filter. I emailed iSpring and received a quick response from Sean. He was more than willing to help me and sent me another wrench for free. Thanks again Sean! I would highly recommend this filter system for any use.

I needed a filter that could be mounted on a vertical pipe. This filter housing supports mounting on pipes with any angle you could come up with. I used sharkbite fittings and can rotate and turn the filter housing in almost any direction without losing a drop of water. The housing is made extremely well and looks to be very durable. I ordered the one with a 50 micron filter. I flushed the filter daily and after about a week, my pressure goes down to almost nothing. I called ISpring and spoke with Nick. He was nice enough to send me the 100 micron filter to try. I really hope it works as this is a well made product. If I had to make any recommendations, I would change a pressure gauge to a PSI one, but the one that is there works and can relate it to PSI without much though. It would be nice to have a bypass valve, but that would probably drive up the cost.

It does not work and is now just decoration in my utility room. Installed it when we replaced our well pump and also installed a big blue sediment filter, whole house filter, and iron filter. Put it front because it's supposed to be a spin down and grab the large particulates before they get to the other filters. It made the whole system crash. Under normal use it needs to be scraped a few times per day, otherwise we drop from 60 PSI to 10 PSI. If we do a load of laundry and the dishes it will need to get cleaned immediately. Complete waste of money, but can't return because it would probably cost more to have the plumber come take it out than it's worth. At least the filter is removeable I suppose so when it fails you can at least disable it (oh yeah, there's no bypass either).

iSpring WSP50GR I received the item quickly for my project to renovate our home water system and after opening, inspecting to ensure all items were present, I was concerned about the weight of the item. The filter is made well, but is heavy. So, in planning for the install of this item, I would recommend some type of bracket be made for this filter for future installers to make the installation better and more durable over the longer term. I ended up using stand-offs to secure my lines, and where this filter is mounted, I used two, one above and one below, and it seems relatively stable and durable with that. I did experience leaks at the SharkBite fittings; however, this was my own fault and I should have used both connection paste and the included Teflon tape together. Wherever I did not, I experienced some small leaks in my new system, and so I would highly recommend to anyone doing this type of project to use both on any threaded connections, as that worked best. No leaks were noted in the unit itself, or at the rotating head, which surprised me. No real pressure drops were noted and I have three gauges in my system, one at the pressure tank manifold, one at the input to the iSpring WGB21B 2-Stage Whole House Water, and I would see those drops, I think. I only noticed about a 5-psi difference between supply and output pressures. However, I did not use ¾” lines in my setup and used 1” lines throughout until it meets the house system which does reduce to ¾” at that point. So far, and it has only been about three days now, but the filter is performing as described in my system. For the manufacturer, I would add a bracket kit.

We just had a new well dug 350 feet deep. We needed to ensure that we get rid of as much sediment as possible before it hits our twin "Big Blue" filters and our UV filter. After much research, we decided to buy this iSpring filter. We needed to find a model that could be installed on a vertical pipe, and this filter allows you to install either vertically or horizontally. We used SharkBite push-on couplings, which made the insulation very easy. This product is very well made, and our initial impression is that it's going to do the job that we need it to do. Prior to installation, I got in touch with their customer service team and a lady called Michelle was incredibly helpful and advised us to use the correct filter size - 100 microns. She sent us the right one that day. I would therefore recommend this product, and their customer service was first class thanks to Michelle!! Good product, good company!!

Pros: Quality build. When I first took it out of the box you could immediately feel that it was a quality item. Has heft, a rotatable filter without having to open it, some very smart things. Cons: On the flip side, there are no hex nut reliefs cast into the filter itself so you can’t truly tighten your fittings to each side of the unit. You can only tighten one side against the other. So yeah, it’s a flawed design, no wonder there’s several reviews of the unit leaking (mine did too). It’s scary trying to tighten a fitting down, when you can’t brace it with an opposing wrench on the same side. In other words while your tightening it, your putting the pressure on the filter, and hoping it won’t crack. (Directions are non existent, BTW.) Last, the bracket is really an afterthought, for it doesn’t fit the unit. My guess is that it’s sourced from a larger unit. When you hold the bracket up against the filter, the spacing is such that it lands right where the pipe threads are... really?! Verdict: So In the end even though it was well made it wasn’t well designed, so I traded it for another unit which includes several different fittings plus a silicone washer, which is sorely needed on this unit. I like iSpring stuff, I just think that this particular unit is half baked if you know what I mean.

We live in the Ottawa area on the eastern extremity of the Canadian Shield where the subterranean water courses are very rich in iron, this manifests as ferrous oxide together with sediment in our well water. I installed the WSP50GR in March 2020 as a pre-filter to extend the life of our water softener. iSpring provide access to the manual online so preparation for installation was easy. Installation is a breeze using conventional fittings for Pex, copper, CPVC, etc. I read the manual and got the correct parts for my specific installation ahead of time. If you choose to have a plumber do the installation he or she will probably enjoy the job, it’s that easy. I reconfigured our filtration layout in December to add an oxidizing iron filter and changed the orientation of the WSP50GR ports from the original horizontal to vertical, it works very well in either position. Once installed there is a small amount of movement possible between the filter body and the mounted flange that is accommodated through the ‘O’ ring seals. The movement is to allow for changing the filter body orientation. There is no movement during operation and no leakage. Observing material on the filter is easy as is using the scraper to dislodge the stubborn stuff. From March to October the unit gave excellent service when I back-flushed it every two days and used the scraper approximately every four days. Beginning late in December I noticed that the unit was plugging prematurely. The cause appears to be a lot of new home construction in our area with associated well drilling. Once I removed the mesh, cleaned it with hot soapy water and air dried it we had full pressure again. Because the mesh cleaning is now required so frequently I wanted to increase the filtration mesh size from the standard 50 micron to 100 micron for the construction period. I contacted iSping to ask if this was possible and if so to request the substitute part number. I received immediate and excellent assistance from Richard in their customer support department. I did a lot of research before choosing the WSP50GR and made a good choice. The unit is easy to install, works very well and could not be easier to service. The unit gauge allows water exit pressure to be monitored and compared with well pump pressure. I have provided a picture of the install and the flow diagram for explanation.
