Great book!

I really enjoyed the lessons and ideas in this book. I was just a wee bit disappointed because I was looking for elementary level persuasive writing lesson ideas. I have used some of these ideas and tweaked them to fit my purposes, so it was useful.

This book has scores of ideas for learning the art of persuasion. The Common Core Standards promote the idea that all writing is argument or debate. The difference is that persuasion promotes the idea of a common truth that we share with each other. In debate it is all a game. The ideas this book go far beyond the limited Common Core Standards and give students tools to think about their arguments and the common truth.

What do overworked, frazzled English teachers need more than June, July and August? This book. Why We Must Run With Scissors is a practical, usable book filled with ideas that beg to be used by real kids in a real classroom. They were written by a real teacher who has used them, perfected them and presented them in one of the most user friendly formats I have encountered in years. While this book is touted as a writing text, it is really a literacy text because it is filled with reading, writing, connecting and extending ideas. I love this book, and I would recommend it to any teacher who wants to bring joy and laughter back to the teaching of reading and writing.-

This amazing book is packed with persuasive activities, some extensive but most brief and powerful. As you can expect from Barry Lane, this book is also a lot of fun for both teacher and students. Bring life back into your persuasive writing lessons and buy this book.

This is just outdated and doesn't really do much to help my writers with the new common core requirements.

This book had a ton of great ideas to use in any classroom.
