Minecraft: Essential Handbook

My girls have recently gotten into Minecraft on their iPad Minis and have been completely obsessed. They want to play all the time. Most of the time they are just messing around on it. We asked them if they would be interested in some books about Minecraft and they jumped at the chance. We purchased the Minecraft Essential Handbook and the Minecraft Construction Handbook for them and they loved them. They share the books back and forth and flip through them to get ideas for building things. They are using the iPad Pocket Edition that doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the PC version has, but these books are still good for general guidance and ideas. They are great beginner books to get them thinking about other things they can create. There are three other official books and a compilation of all of them if you want even more. If you have a beginner at Minecraft, these books are worth a look.

Obviously, this book isn't going to make you an expert by any means... but it is exactly what I was looking for. My 5 year old son is less than excited about reading but LOVES MineCraft. He'll read a word or two and then just shuts down. The day this book came in he couldn't wait to read it, PERFECT. It's not really "new reader friendly" but when I point to a word that he knows or can sound out, he actually does it! Best $5 I've spent since we ordered the PS3 version, lol. The book is written so well that my wife could sit down and play with the boys even though she knows nothing about the game. All of the basic recipes, their uses, useful tips, and, my sons favorite, stories from the "pros" and their first encounters with creepers. I will be ordering the rest of the "series" in the future. Hopefully the redstone one will teach me a thing or two!

I remember when I was younger and loving video games, heck I still do. I also remember wanting the guide books to go with them, it was like a virtual adventure lol. When my 7 year old daughter asked for the two Minecraft books, I was skeptical because video game guide books when I grew up were usually made by Prima and cost $20-$30. Come to find out, even at B&N they were less than $9 I decided to get them for her. She loves Minecraft and the books, she reads them and reading is educational and improves her reading comprehension regardless of the material. I highly recommend these for any Minecraft fan. The quality of the hardcover is far greater than I expected for spending less than $5 for them.

While this book is 80 pages, it's only the basics and they cover one item per page with color drawings. It's easy to read but lacks any real meat for anyone other than beginner. It does lay out all the basics but 80% of the book I discovered on my own playing the game over 4 days. I did cheat and look up some crafting recipes during that 4 days. The book only gives you minimal recipes but does explain what each mineral does, shows what it looks like and how to best find it. It does the same for animals, plants, and nasty MOBs (Bad creatures that want to kill you). This book would have been of immense help before I started playing, like telling you how to get through day 1 (I died like 5 times). But if you have been playing for a bit and you want to get much more in depth information this is not for you. You will likely still find a bit useful but it really only covers the basics to get started. I read all 80 pages (I skipped the interview with the maker at the end for now) in about 25 minutes.

I bought this for my 8 year old nephew for his birthday along with the game, and he read it cover to cover. He's a really picky kid and he told me I gave him the best birthday present! My husband plays Minecraft, too, and I had to smuggle the book out of the house because he kept wanting to read it. Looks like I may have to buy another for my house!

I started off buying this for my daughter, but every time someone comes to our house they talk about this book and review it. Since my intial purchase I have bought 3 more books as gifts to other kids. If you want your kids to read something over and over and they like minecraft this book will be perfect for them. Eight months later and this is still a primary birthday purchase for my kids friends. It is amazing watching kids stuck in book for days...even if it is to learn a video game. I personally am not a fan of minecraft but my 8 year old says it has tons of helpful hints in it and she is constantly pulling it off the shelf.

I bought this for two of my grandsons. One is 8 and the other is 9. They have played Minecraft for several years. They play it on the Xbox 360. They have both been reading this book and have pointed out things they didn't know. Some of the information is geared towards things not yet included in the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft. Xbox 360 is supposed to have an update in the near future that this information will apply to. The majority of the information in this book applies to the Xbox 360 version. I would definitely recommend it for beginners. I also ordered the other 3 books that go with this one. "Minecraft: Redstone Handbook", "Minecraft: Combat Handbook" and "Minecraft: Construction Handbook.".

My 6 year old son is mad about mine craft and saw this book at his school book fair. It was cheaper to purchase on amazon and after much pleading I finally ordered it. I gave this 5 stars based on how thrilled my son is with this book. He carries it around with him as if it were sacred text. I cannot speak for the information contained in it or how useful it is for someone who plays mine craft. T he book is the perfect size for my little man and the hardbound book is holding up well. The book still looks brand new even after being carried around for 6 weeks by a little boy.

Ce guide n'est pas forcément destiné aux joueurs avertis, mais il peut tout de même donner quelques petites astuces sympathiques. Pour un joueur débutant il donnera les bases. En dehors de ça il est visuellement parfaitement réalisé, très agréable à regarder.

Problema é que é em inglês,não atentei para esse fato! Minha filha ficou chateada! Mas os desenhos são legais! Não li a especificação!

I purchased this book for my son. He just loves it and he says it helps him with the game.
