Reading the first two books is definitely helpful for understanding the events of this one, but not necessary. Great visuals, characters and writing. Perfect pacing, lots of surprises and a fast read. Review: Worth it. - If you like the comic books, or the TV show, you will like this book (and the other two). Good but felt stretched out
I love the Walking Dead comic book and the previous two novels but this one just felt stretched thin in some parts for example the part where Lilly has to find a pregnancy test. Woodsbury was described as a place where prostitution occurred frequently. I find it hard to believe that she would have had to go searching for one outside of the fence and that there wasn't one being traded at the store in town. Also a large portion of the book is just a novel retelling of the comic book and it just felt like last minute filler. I liked the story but I feel it would have been better if all of the stuff that was already covered in the comic was left out and wished they had just focused on Lilly.

Great Book.
As a person who has never read the comics and has only watched the AMC show, this book was an eye opener. There were surprises in this book that I would have never never known if I were only watching the show. Great book from beginning to end, as a matter of fact the last 4 chapters kept me glued to my Kindle, I couldn't put it down.

Another great book
Love this book, continues the story from the other book. Just a nice companion to the comics. I like reading about other characters and other cities, etc. from the comics. Great writing and can't wait to read the next one.

I hope part 2 will be better
-Originally posted on goodreads -AVOID READING THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET I knew coming into this that The Fall of the Governor 1 & 2 was going to be a retelling of the comics from Woodbury's point of view. Even though I had already read the issues on which the final two books of the series were based, I took to the idea in a heartbeat. How interesting that would be, right? It turns out it isn't what I expected it to be. The beginning part of the book before it catches up to the comics is really useless, except that it introduces Lilly's new love interest, Austin. This is what Lilly is preoccupied with during the entire novel, as expected because she isn't a major player in the comics until later on (meaning, the next book). But, I've got to admit that learning of her pregnancy was a shocker--especially because us comic book readers knows what happens in the end. But this is Lilly the entire book in a nutshell: "I loved Josh but I also like Austin and whoops! Baby! Now what are we gonna do?" I still like Lilly as a character, but her departure from the main events proves that her inclusion in the first of two parts was only intended as a setup for the next installment of the series. So, as a fan of the comic books, is it worth it? I'd say yes. Because it focuses on the characters of Woodbury, we get into the heads of Lilly, the Governor, Austin and Bruce, but that's not all--Michonne and Rick have their own POVs as well, and as we spent years as an outsider watching their story unfold, we finally get to know what they're thinking. These moments are brief, but they provide much insight into the characters. Getting inside the Governor's head especially really points things into perspective, and I'm glad that we are able to delve more into his psychosis, especially since things are obviously going to get worst for him as the story unfolds. But even though we get to see the Woodbury side of things, I just don't think it really adds anything to the story already told in the comics. I should have expected it since Rick, Michonne, and Glenn arrived, but this is simply a retelling of the comics with insight into a few Woodbury residents and a few extra scenes. I was kind of hoping that we'd get more insight as to why Woodbury--especially Gabe and Bruce, who know of all the terrible things that the Governor does--would follow behind such a man. But no, the answer we get is exactly the answer that the comics provided. I'm a little disappointed in that, but since this is part 1 of 2, and Rick, Michonne and Glenn are out of Woodbury, I'm holding my breath for the next installment.

Great book!
Well what can I say about this book, It picks up right where they left off in the last book. Its a great look into the Governors crazy mind. Only this is its part 1 of 2. I belive the second half will be out in march! A little disapointed but should be worth the wait!!!

Enhancing the world of TWD
I really enjoyed the additional insight this book provided and the new perspective it added to the events that took place in the comic series. I would definitely recommend this book to Walking Dead fans. The novels compliment the comic series perfectly and creates more depth to some characters mentioned in the comics. The novel was pretty short, parts one and two could have been combined into one whole book and as someone else mentioned the author uses words that sometimes don't make sense and interrupt the flow if the reading. Overall it was a great read though. I'm looking forward to reading the next series of books in The Walking Dead world.

Wow! This book was so well written, is fast paced and gripping. Love this series, not for the faint hearted. I love TWD series, but these books are so much more. They describe the horrors in great detail, much more than you can get from watching on tv. The storylines are amazing and I'm guessing they follow the comic book series because they vary a bit from the series. I can't recommend this book enough. I've read the first two in the series too and they are brilliant although this was my favourite so far. I will be downloading the next one straight away, and I'm actually dreading when I'm on the last book as they are that good and I haven't read anything as exciting for a while. I would aim this at adults who love the walking dead, I most certainly wouldn't let a teenager read it, it's very descriptive in all the horrors. Please write some more, I love these books!!!

I love everything Walking Dead, and was so happy this series was released. I am a big "reader", so having a novel to read about my fave series, is a better fit for me than the comic's. I had expectations about what I thought it would be about, but I was happily wrong. This is an excellent book, so much new information to add to my Walking Dead knowledge. The book is well written and it was hard to put it down. The only "problem" was it is short, I'm a fan of long stories, so I was sad about the length of the book, but it wouldn't stop me from reading all the rest. I'm gonna hold off reading the next 2 until I have all in the series, so I can read them consecutively- my way of turning a short novel into a BIG novel. I highly recommend this book to all Walking Dead fans, it's a great story and it's addictive. Amazon.ca delivered the book in excellent condition, on the same day it was released and the price was perfect. Kudo's to your staff they serve you well,

This is another brilliant book that continues to add depth to such an intense character, along with adding details to the already existing story from the comic's. The one star review by Kevin is completely false because these books are side stories set in the same universe as the comic books. They have nothing to do with the AMC TV show and follow a different path of events. I would suggest reading the first two books first 'Rise of the Governor' and 'Road to Woodbury' as they are filled with some surprises that I wont spoil. But if your a fan of the comic's your mind will be blown. Once again this is a brilliant story and I recommend it to anyone that's a fan of The Walking Dead. Even if you've only watched the TV show you'll love it, but remember this isn't the same person from the show.
