The Acts of the Apostles (The Pillar New Testament Commentary (PNTC)) [David G. Peterson] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Acts of the Apostles (The Pillar New Testament Commentary (PNTC)) Review: Thorough knowledge - This book gives a scholarly study of The Book of Acts. The author is well respected and he provides plenty of footnotes. It is intended for serious students or pastors. Very well done. Review: Buy It For Acts - Pederson is an excellent exegetical commentary ... the best choice for most purposes. The exegesis is thorough. The discussion of textual consideration is sound. The theological insights are useful. If you can only afford one commentary of Acts this is the one you need. It becomes especially helpful if used in tandem with another commentary like Pinter (SOG) for preaching and teaching application.

My Favorite Commentary on Acts
After preaching through Acts for over a year, Peterson's commentary became my favorite. I read it straight through during that time from cover to cover and found it consistently very helpful. I would put Eckhard Schnabel's as a #2 for a more technical commentary along with Craig Keener's shorter work (his massive multi-volume one I only read a small fraction of, but is unbeatable for historical background). Derek Thomas's series of sermons in REC series (that is out of print) was also outstanding. If you want one commentary that contains much substance but doesn't lose the forest for the trees, this is it!

Excellent!
Started a sermon series on Acts using Bruce and Stott. Both very good. Have since transitioned to this commentary by Peterson which is outstanding! Using it almost exclusively. Far more detail than both Bruce and Stott. Highly recommended!

I have preached through chapter 2 and have to say the first 150 pages are great. I am using Peterson and Polhill as my commentaries and would go with Polhill for readability but both are amazing.

Solid but Pricey
There is no doubt that David Peterson's commentary on Acts is a work of high scholarship. It is also written in an accessible way so that most readers will benefit from its insights. I did not find it as insightful in the end as some of the other commentaries I used while studying through the book of Acts and for the price tag there are much better bargains. It is by no means a bad work but it did not in my mind have a value equal to its price. That said I would recommend it to mature Christians who are not under any price constraint, though even then it would not be my first choice. This is a very solid commentary, however.
