good product in a crowded field. Outstanding service
There are lots of ways to make your garage door smart. This is one of the very best ways. The installation is simple, but not insubstantial. You're going to need some common sense to fill in the blanks in the instructions to make it work for your opener. Also, you're going to need to be able to modify the mounts for the sensors for your particular garage layout. It's not difficult, but you may need to fashion your own mount. (it does come with some mounts that probably work in most cases). The app works well. I love that I can use it from my watch. I also really like the "welcome home" feature with the proximity-based opening. Others have said this is hit-or-miss for consistency, but in my experience every time the proximity opening didn't work the culprit was either (1) my phone either not having location enabled or not allowing the Nexx Home app to run in the background; or (2) my sensors were mounted incorrectly so the unit didn't know the true state of the garage. IFTTT and Alexa compatibility out of the box are also super convenient. I see some people complaining that this is overpriced. While it's true that you could hack together a switch that would accomplish many of the same tasks as this, it's not going to be this simple, not going to have this many integrations out of the box, and not going to have the level of support Nexx provides. I also like that it doesn't require any sort of hub (but I wish that it worked with smartthings, which I understand is in their product roadmap). The Support by Nexx has been outstanding. The first unit I received had something wrong with the wifi hardware and so I could not connect. After one evening of troubleshooting they issued me a new unit and paid for the shipping back on the malfunctioning one. Super responsive and helpful. Another item I had, was that the watch app was not loading on my android watch. It seemed that a round watch maybe wasn't supported. Within a few days of reporting this to Nexx and walking through initial troubleshooting, they pushed an update to the play store and the watch functionality worked. I've got nothing but good things to say about their support, and if you've got heartburn about the price, rest assured this makes up for it. I'd buy it again.

Very functional, including Echo support
I really love this device. While it is much more tedious to install this garage door opener than the Chamberlain MyQ, it is also more functional. My favorite feature is that the NEXX will open your garage door automatically as you approach your home. It also sends automatic updates to both my iPhone and Apple Watch every time the door is opened or closed, and they both work well. The NEXX also works with Alexa, but it takes a mouthful to do it. "Alexa, ask NEXX Garage Opener to open the [garage door]." (You can name your device whatever you want in settings.) Alexa almost always responds with "Please enter your security code." What your Echo is asking is for you to speak your code, not "enter" it. (You can find your code in the settings of the app. The code remains the same, so you only have to identify it the first time.) Once you get through all that, the door opens as expected. This issue apparently has to do with Amazon and security, and not NEXX. My experience is that you won't be using Alexa all that often because of the lengthy commands you need to do something simple like just opening the door. My only caution to potential purchasers is the installation process. Unlike the MyQ from Chamberlain, this device needs to be screwed onto the garage door, then a wire needs to be run from the sensor back to the NEXX controller. For anyone who has any experience with an electric drill, this isn't going to be a big challenge, but it's still more difficult than MyQ which uses a totally wireless system that can just be stuck on the garage door. The controller, which needs to be mounted directly on the garage opener, needs to have its wires connected to the terminals of the garage opener and then it needs to be plugged into an available AC outlet. Again, not a challenging operation, but frustrating enough that some people won't be able to figure it out. Lucky for me that the builder of my home installed an unused duplex in the ceiling of my garage, near the garage opener. If that wasn't the case, I would have needed to use an adapter with the garage light bulb in order to get power. The advantage of the NEXX over the MyQ is no batteries. Both the sensor and the controller are AC powered, so as long as you have electricity, your NEXX will work. With the MyQ, if the sensor battery dies, the system is down. Lastly, a quick word about NEXX's excellent customer support. I had a couple questions about the opener and they got back to me in under a day and answered my questions. Kudos to the support group for being the kind of technical support we all wish our devices had when we need help. So in short, the NEXX Garage Opener is a very functional device that does exactly what it says it will do. You just need to be a bit handy to install it.

Easy installation and it works
Pros: The product was easy to install. It probably took about 30 minutes for the entire installation and setup (connect to wifi, install the app, etc.). The app works in opening the garage and closing the garage. The sensor lets me know if it is opened or closed. I can control it through the internet and Alexa, even if the Alexa command is a bit cumbersome. The app is pretty good and the notifications work well. Neutral: Auto open, doesn't work all the time. It is sporadic. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. My wife and I have different phones (iphone and android) with different carriers and neither is consistent. I get there are some challenges with geofencing, so I am not going to knock them on this one as there are a ton of factors outside of their control. Cons: It is not an official smart product. This means Alexa does not recognize it as a smart product. Yes, you can add the Alexa skill and control the garage with Alexa. You can open it, close it and check the status. But, since it is not recognized by Alexa as a smart product, you cannot add it to routines as the device does not appear in Alexa. This also makes controlling it through Alexa voice commands a bit cumbersome. I cannot say, "Alexa, close garage door." Instead I have to say, "Alexa, ask Nexx Garage to close garage door." That bit of disconnect can be frustrating from time-to-time. Overall, I am happy with the product and I feel it is a good one. I am not sure what it would take to make this an official smart product, but that integration would be beneficial.
