A great bargain at $53
This product works well in the bathroom it is located in, where there are no long steamy baths. At 70 cubic feet per minute, it evacuates steam pretty well for most bathers, except for my son who likes 40 minute baths, who generates too much steam for a 70 cfm fan but seldom bathes in this room. The product is good looking, especially with the red heat lamp bulb installed, which along with a regular lamp bulb in the other socket gives the ceiling a deluxe appearance, with twin lights in a nice surround. Most of the time we keep the heat lamp from switching on by backing the bulb out enough so it does not make electrical contact. During winter, however, the forced air central heating does a poor job heating this room, and the heat lamp then becomes useful. HINT CONCERNING PLACEMENT OF THIS FAN/LIGHT UNIT In this bathroom, the face of the bathroom user is illuminated by lights around the washbasin mirror, while the Broan fan/light unit is set back in a ceiling recess about four feet from the wall on which the washbasin is located, providing good light to the rest of the room. NOTE TO MANUFACTURERS: I wish that bathroom fan manufacturers would install a fan speed control, so as to adjust for the volume of steam created, and to allow rapid evacuation of steam when the room gets clouded too much.

Needs an electrician (like a real one)
All the people complaining that it burns out, well thereโs many ways to set up the lights and heater, get an electrician to do it! My electrician said that only one of the sockets is set up for heat, the other is for a light. Do not put heat in both or it will give you problems is my guess. Itโs been working for months here. The heat is not too warm, but better than nothing. Seriously get an electrician to install it if you want it to work.

Very nice product for the price
I can't claim to have experience with many different bathroom fans; I have replaced a couple of Broan or NuTone power-room fans but this is the first larger size fan I've installed. First off- check the specs. You get a fan, and 2 light sockets. It does not have an automatic shut off, a humidity sensor, a mega-watt heater, or any other else other than a fan and lights. Considering the price, this is expected. It is not the quietest based on the number of Soanes [published], but I find it's plenty quiet. Sure, I can hear it, but it's minimal and certainly one can't notice it when the shower is running. Noise was not an issue for me at all. The heat lamps are great. In my bathroom they are not capable of warming the entire room and they don't do much for the floor either. They are nice, though, for when you step out of the shower. Some competitor products with heaters state that you need a separate x-amp (I forget how many amps) power supply. This Broan 164 unit is not that power-hungry. One other consideration- the actual fan blade and motor comes out as a unit and has a 2-prong plug for the motor. IF you already have the Broan 2-bulb unit installed and the motor needs replaced, you can just replace the motor/fan blades rather than disassembling and reinstalling an entire unit. Again, that's if you already have an existing similar Broan 2-bulb fan in place.

Very good value
Installed this fan/light combo to replace similar size heat lamp in the bathroom of my older house. The old heat lamp attempted to remove the steam from the shower by a small fan blowing the steam over the hot heat lamps (not exhausting the steam). I guess this technique was acceptable in the day, but the new fan makes a world of difference. Was easy to install, by simply opening the existing cut out slightlyin my plastered ceiling. Of course had to cut a vent hole in the side of the house to vent, but all in all pretty simple. Fan is powerful and as quiet as could be expected. I'm thinking of getting another for a bath I remodeled a few years ago. At that time I didn't know I could such a replacement for my old fan. This is a very good product.

Started out great
The heat lamps are great and put out a lot of warm light. The fan started off being very quite when we installed it (3 months ago) but it has become louder in last couple of weeks. We even insulated around the box during the installation with a rubber ice shield product. Installation and wiring took almost a full day in the attic, we had to completely rewire the bathroom to add the timer for the heat lamps which was fine since we had taken out all of the dry wall. It moves air really well though, I can feel a draft under the door of the bathroom when the fan is on. I take very hot showers and the mirror is never foggy when I get out. Our bathroom is 5ft by 7ft, so its not a big space to ventilate but it works very well for us.

Looks perfect for a small bathroom.
I was a bit surprised at the size of this unit. I was expecting something a bit smaller. Not that that is a bad thing. I have not hooked it up yet, but I did notice in the instructions that it shows you how to wire it onto one single switch, 2 switches or 3 different switches for all of the components separately. This is great. I plan to use one of the bulb sockets as a regular light and the other for a heat lamp. i will wire the fan and lifgt onto one switch and the heat lamp separately. This unit does require it's own 20 amp circuit. Currently I am waiting to install this due to the fact that it needs to be vented outside rather just into the attic. I have had people tell me that venting into the attic is ok and others tell me that it will promote mold growth. If any professionals are out there, please feel free to leave me a comment. In the meantime, I was thinking that Broan RVK1A Roof Vent Kit would be perfect for what I need. I am not an electrician, but the provided instructions seem pretty straight forward and clear, i think I can manage to install this on my own in an evening. My bathroom is fairly small and has no other heat source, in the winter we end up using a small ceramic heater while we shower, etc. Hopefully this will be enough to warm things up a bit. Great Affordable Way to Replace Fan!!
We bought our townhome in 2019 and it's an old place, built in 1973. The place was remodeled by the investor real estate agent and the bathroom vent, dirty with debris finally seized up this past week. An electrician offered to replace it for between $300-500 and I said, nope can't afford that. Removed the old trim plate and checked out the data plate in the old box and learned that ours was a 164-L made by Broan NuTone. Checked their website and they sell the fan drum, bracket and motor as an assembly for $85.00. Quickly ordered that and it is set to arrive next week. Also dug around on Amazon and found that they sell the whole enchilada for less than $60.00. It does not say which revision it is, but it's a Broan 164, so bought that as well. Needless to say, the Amazon arrived today and I dismantled the motor and wheel assembly from the new one, which is a 164-M by the way and swapped it out. Voila, we now have a running fan. I'll save the remaining box assembly for parts and plan on keeping the Broan order as well and swap out the other one in the other bathroom. So, all in all, it cost me $160.00 for two fan assemblies and one main assembly. Glad my research paid off!!

Excellent Bathroom Heater
I was using a 1500W ceramic heater to heat our bathroom. I'd turn it on about a half hour before I wanted to take a shower but would often get delayed or forget and it'd run for hours. Now I turn on the Broan heater as I enter to shave or take my shower and turn it off when I am finished. 500w for 25 minutes is much cheaper than 1500w for 1-3 hours. I have each bulb and the vent fan on separate switches so I can control what runs. 500w directly overhead is very efficient and I suspect will be overkill in warmer seasons. It definitely knocks the chill off the room. I especially like that it has 2 heat sensors, either of which will turn on the fan if necessary to ensure the enclosure doesn't overheat if I'm only using the heat lamps. Installation was very easy with adequate adjustments to make everything fit and look great. The wiring illustrations were clear for the various optional configurations.

Good heater lamp
Like: works great. Like the choice of single heat/light or double heat/light Dislike: The housing could be more aesthetically pleasing

Horrible units
Perhaps the worst heat lamp fixture ever. The installed fan is for cooling the fixture and switches on with a thermostat as required. Often. It was annoying to begin with but as time has past (about 2 years since install) the fans (I have 2) have degraded and sound like industrial ventilators. They can be unplugged in the fixture and all seems well until the heat fuse blows and the fixture goes dark. How to fix that I have yet to discover.
