These books were originally published in the 1950โs and love the illustrations and the innocence of the stories. A perfect baby shower gift. Review: Read it once, remember it forever. It's that good. - This may quite possibly be the finest book for children ever written. The story is timeless, the characters are honest, and the illustrations are pictures that will stay in your mind for the rest of your life. I read it when I was in first grade many, many decades ago. I bought it for my sons, decades ago, and we read it endlessly. I recently bought it for my grandsons and I know they will love it as well, as I read it with them. A story that touches your heart, over many generations, is one for the ages. This is such a story.

An excellent collection
Three excellent stories of yore in a well bound edition. I purchased this for my daughter and she enjoyed the story and the artwork. Also, it took me back to my childhood as well.

Fabulous treasury of Burton's best!
Beautiful collection of Burton's best. As a librarian, this is one of my favorite books to give as a gift. In particular, I love all of the strong, determined, female protagonists that are portrayed in each of the stories. These characters serve as great role models for children and adults alike.

KIDS TODAY NEED TO HAVE THESE BOOKS READ TO THEM!
Virginia Lee Burton is an exceptional writer and artist. There are no other graphic kids books like these elsewhere. The stories keep your interest, contain useful information and details, and give a lesson. I loved having them read to me as a kid and I read them to my daughter and I just sent a set to my grand nephews. Yes, they are old but they are not dated.

Childhood Stories!
I remember a couple of these stories from my childhood, and it's great to see some more written in the same style from the same author! Did you know that Virginia Lee Burton would read her books to children, and if they started to lose interest, she would take notes, and change it! I have read one of these stories to my daughter's 2nd grade class, and their teacher said they have never been more captivated! This book is hardcover, and I'll cherish it for years, and hopefully my children will one day too!

childhood nostalgia
I bought this book to read to my students. I remembered having the individual books as a kid and it brought back a sense of nostalgia. I really love these stories! Some of the English is a little difficult for lower level English learners but the pictures help them understand the story.

Excellent collection of 4 stories, two unknown to me and Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel mary Ann was my favorite as akid. know I enjoy reading it to my son knowing he is learning about the older days of US culture while growing up in Germany. The stories count as one long bedtime story each and the happy ends let the kids go to sleep well. A real classic worth the money

Lovely stories & illustrations.
My son loved this book & we read & re-read these stories many times. This is a beautiful hardback copy with lovely illustrations, very appealing in that tradional story kind of way. It's become a classic in our house now & I bought this as a present for my nephew. Very happy with it.

Excellent, timeless children's classic
This collection of Virginia Lee Burton stories - a copy of which I had as a child myself - has stood the test of time. The stories are enjoyable and the illustrations perfectly compliment them. Interestingly, all of the principal characters (except Mike Mulligan) are female (Mary Anne, the Little House, Katy, Mabel). Definitely a timeless classic.

Mike Mulligan
I read one of these to my children when they were little. Gave this one to my son to read to his boy. It is wonderful and I was so pleased to find other stories she had written. I love the drawings too.
