Grooming by BaByliss PRO Cordless Super Motor Clipper

Had previously been cutting my hair with some corded babyliss clippers and was quite happy with their performance. The only inconvenience was the cord and having to drag a big piece of kit into my hallway each week while also trying to use a hand mirror. I was looking for a cordless replacement but also of a high quality and these fit the bill perfectly. The build quality is sturdy and the outside shell is metal. I don't find them heavy at all despite what some reviews say. The quality of the cut is just as good as my corded babyliss. I can't comment on fades etc as I don't cut my hair that way. I use this to trim my beard and head hair and it works great for both. I'd say it does a better job on my beard than the corded clippers. The only slight knock I would give is that it doesn't come with a 7 or 8 guard and I cut the top of my head with those guards. Fortunately the ones that came with my corded babyliss fit perfectly and aren't any worse quality than the ones that come with this. I understand this is marketed more towards skillful fades etc than what I'm going for which is just a fortnightly simple trim but maybe others wouldn't be inconvenienced having higher guard attachments (my corded babyliss had ones to 11). Overall it's basically the perfect cordless clipper I was looking for. Only other slight knock I'd give is that the led flashes red while it's charging. It was disconcerting at first and I had thought it was broken but it's normal... it's a little bit of an annoyance however hopefully there should be a good time between charges and I'm only inconvenienced by its 3 hours charge here and there.

I used to go in to the barbers every few months and get a "number 3 all over". But with the lockdowns my hair was getting on for shoulder length and annoying the hell out of me. So I bought this, and had a go myself. Amazing. Just like those U.S marine recruits in the movies. Zzzzzip! And it was gone. A bit awkward and not quite up to professional standards round the back (due the difficulties of reaching round behind my head!), but perfectly acceptable. And from the front, looks just like the barber did it. It comes with a full set of comb guides, simple and clear instructions, a charger, a cleaning brush, and a tube of lubricating oil. It is expensive I suppose but with the barber charging a tenner a go it will pay for itself in a few years.

This is a nice hair cutting device. If used instead of regular visits to the barber, the cost savings justify buying one of these. I have only had three minor issues so far: i) this is not waterproof and should not be left in a humid (shower) environment, I store mine in two ziplock bags in the bathroom and only use it before a shower. ii) The battery indicator only has two states; fully charged and empty. A single charge is enough for hours of use but the charge is slow and will catch people out. I would have liked an charge me indicator that goes on when it has <30min remaining (or the easier <30% of battery remaining). iii) The cutting height is set coarsely using clip on combs and finely adjusted using the lever on the side of the device. Trouble is the lever on the side of the device is easily tripped during a cut, it should have a better lock in place mechanism. My current work around is to use it on the lowest fine adjustment setting with the clip of comb of my choice, that way tripping the fine adjust mid cut only results in correctable consequences.

Arrived promptly, despite the current lockdown situation, so no issues there. This is a robust clipper which feels solid in your hand, and better made than a couple of Wahl models I've owned previously. The motor seems to be quite powerful, no awkward snagging or tugging of the hair, and there is no problem with completing a haircut on one charge. It is also possible, if necessary, to unplug the lead from the back of the charger and plug it into the base of the clippers, turning it into a corded clipper if you do run out of charge. The instructions say to use it this way for a maximum of 20 minutes, it is a useful back-up function but one you probably won't need to use. There is a good range of attachments supplied and the tube of lubricating oil is a bit bigger than you usually get in these kits, so should last a while. This set is aimed at those who have a few basic items already, as there are no scissors or comb included, though my previous experience is that these are usually of such poor quality that they are worse than useless anyway. Better to put your money into a better set of clippers (like these) and get a decent pair of scissors and a cutting comb separately. These are quite pricey, but are robust enough that, with care, they should last for many years. My one criticism, and the reason for the 4 stars, is the lack of a case or pouch to store/carry them in. Despite being branded as "professional" these are clearly aimed primarily at the domestic market, and are unlikely to be out on a salon counter in daily use, so suitable storage (other than the massive over-sized box they come in) would be useful. Otherwise I'm very pleased with them.

This is the Rolls Royce or hair clippers no doubt. After WAHL let me down, I was reluctant to try a different brand. I am pleased to say that I have no regrets about my choice. Feels good in the hand, the mechanism to adjust the blades has levels (like a lawn mower) - not great if you need more granularity, but it is precise. It’s light and surprisingly quiet but it never stutters. You don’t have to keep repeating the same areas, such is its effectiveness. I wish it had a more ergonomic shape - or a bit of rubber on the handle) as I always feel I’m seconds away from dropping it. I would not hesitate to recommend this product, in fact, I would buy it over and over again.
