Orbit 55015 Zinc Impact Sprinkler, 1/2-Inch

I've been using these for a long time. I bought this one as a replacement for my base. Fit perfect and works great. Good adjustability. Covers a big area. Metal not plastic.

I needed a replacement to a very old sprinkler head that worked amazing for years and I tried a different brand that lacked the performance of the old one. Decided to give this one a try and so far it is working just as hoped. Easy to adjust and it covers very well. I would buy this again given the quality and price.

Bought this to put on my tripod sprayer after the old one stopped working. The old one was brass. This was cheaper then the brass. It works, however it does not spray near as far as the brass one did. Maybe half the distance. It would be okay but it only sprays about 10 ft in each direction. Definitely disappointed. Update: Actually figured out the stainless steel flap the water hits was pushed to low. Lifted it up and the stream shot way further. Works as it should.

It works great after a modification. As another reviewer noted, the shift arm of this item drags on the tripod pedestal making the sprinkler fail. Rather than returning the item I modified my tripod with a palm sander to lower the surface of the pedestal 1/8 inch.

Over the last few years I’ve tried various irrigation sprinklers. The home we bought had built in irrigation using pop-up heads. I soon learned these are fine for lawns and areas not having bushes, trees and shrubs. As they grow, the pop-ups get blocked. So, next I tried the impact sprinklers and learned to install them on taller ½” pipe (I like to use copper for looks). I concluded quickly that the impacts are by far the best. For some reason a few of them aren’t working quite right (Rain bird brass and 2 Rain Bird plastic). I tried liberal application of silicone spray, but did nothing. I came across these Orbit ones and couldn’t believe they were $8, so I bought 2. The quality of these, like the Rain Birds, are top notch, but about ½ cost. Installing them and seeing them work made me order two more just because I might want to replace two others.

I am having to return these because the "auto flip control hook" (see image) is too long and actually drags against the top of the tripod where the replacement unit screws in. I felt like ORBIT brand would be an exceptional product, but it obviously wasn't designed to be universal and does not fit my water sprinkler tripods - which I presume are another brand. Honestly, I've had the tripods so long I don't remember the brand. HOWEVER - I have over the years replaced the sprinkler heads and never had this problem until I ordered ORBIT brand specifically. These are going back, and I ordered some that show definitively that the "auto flip control hook" (the device that changes direction of the sprinkler head) is short enough that it won't drag against the top of the tripod. New ones came in today - and they work flawlessly. So - my advice is to make certain if you order this ORBIT brand of replacement heads, you are replacing ORBIT branded devices. Otherwise, it may not work for you either. Thankfully Amazon allows exchanges in a case like this. And I would think ORBIT would be interested in truly having a universal product. Not sure if this was an accidental design flaw, or a specific attempt to sell these replacements only for their branded tripods.

This Orbit metal sprinkler head is well built and works great. I’m actually using it with the metal spike in the ground and it stays put. The water spray is good at least 20’ with wide open but has adjustments to make the spray less. It moves easily when set to less than 360o. I would buy Orbit again.
