Quality top notch
There is nothing about the product that does not stand the claims! I ordered it with the Fellow's Clyde to test them. Breville's for its ergonomic simplicity and expected quality (have a few Breville kitchen gadgets, still superb), Clyde for its modern cool look and unique whistling. Breville boils 2min and 10 sec faster, has somewhat larger capacity, has a filter at the pouring spout (can make tea from loose leaves), very solid quality feel to touch (the lid closes slowly and elegantly, the pitcher fits in the bottom part without a bit of wiggle), no whistle needed (the boiling water makes a enough noise through the large spout to be heard in the next room, and the it aurtomatically shuts off after 10sec of boiling). The Clyde boils slower, wide enough to fit on any size stove top without having gas flames come up and around the kettle, the handle does stay cool irrelevant to how long you leave the water boiling, the stainless steel felt a little lighter than expected, the whistling technology of two different tones is unique and cool, a bit less loud than the traditional. The Breville won me over, especially after I remembered that a modern elegant kettle that had a handle beak off just by itself I ordered a few months ago, was from Fellow... I trust the Breville quality.

Quality Product from Breville!
Great replacement for my Zojriushi water boiler and warmer. I originally used a water boiler because I didn't have to heat up a kettle and wait. I simply left the water in the boiler and pressed a button and I had warm or hot water anytime I needed. However, after long term use, the Zojirushi became more cumbersome to clean. Since I had hard water, this made it even more difficult because of the constant mineral build up. I was concerned about the flaky mineral build up that came with the dispensed water. This is when I came across Breville's clear electric kettle. The glass is the most impressive part of this kettle. It made it easy to clean. The only part that is difficult to clean is the bottle of the kettle near the edges and a long pipe near the handle. The opening is large enough that I can reach my entire hand inside and scrub off any residual mineral deposit. And the side of the glass is really easy to clean. I would simply take a soft scrub and rub off the mineral deposits on the stainless steel at the bottle of the kettle. This Breville product is very impressive, along with the design and ease of use. I was also concerned with a possible metallic after taste with metal water kettles, so this was a great option. So far, the unit works perfectly. I can heat up only the water that I need, whether it's 2 cups or an entire liter. Here is a rundown of the good and the bad: Good: - Easy to clean - Mostly glass and stainless steel. The only parts that are plastic is the lid, if people are concerned with BPA from plastics. - Easy to use, one push of the button to boil water. - No unnecessary sounds, the water will simply stop boiling when done. - Water remains hot for a long period of time after boiling. - Easy to take in and out of the main unit. Bad: - Costs more than comparable glass water kettles but well worth the price. - The cord is a bit short, so you can have it too far from a plug. Overall, I would recommend this product. Good job Breville!

Awesome Kettle!!!
We have a lot of tea drinkers in our household, so the electric kettle has been a staple in our house for as long as I can remember. We have had cheap ones, expensive ones, all kinds over the years. When the latest one, a Black and Decker, finally gave up the ghost, I looked around for something to replace it with. Now most kettles are at least part plastic, and with all of the studies these days about what happens to plastic when it is exposed to heat or cold, I was not so thrilled about the vast majority of my choices. Then along came this Breville. All parts that come into contact with the water are 100% BPA free. The pot also boils water quickly, and looks good while doing it. Now the manual recommends emptying and drying out the kettle between uses, which we have not been extremely careful about doing, over the course of our ownership it has developed some white buildup on the heating surface. This is not however anything that can't come off with a little cleaning. Our overall is great. I would recommend this kettle to anyone who wants a nice looking kettle that works well, but who is also concerned about their health.

The clear choice in kettles
I hope I can be forgiven for my terrible pun. Let me start off by saying I've decided to start consistently reviewing what I purchase from Amazon because I find so many reviews are 1 or 5 stars and really don't get into the fine details of the pros and cons of a product. Very few things are complete garbage, and conversely there isn't much out there that's totally perfect. So now that I have my little disclaimer out of the way... This kettle looks wonderful. The design is elegant and it looks great staying out on the kitchen counter with other oft used items like a juicer, toaster or coffee maker. To facilitate this Breville has recessed the base of the unit to allow you to conveniently wind the cord to the ideal length for your needs so the unit looks aesthetically pleasing without miles of cord sticking out. The kettle functions perfectly. There are clearly marked measurements on the side of the jug to avoid overfilling. These should be carefully adhered to because this kettle gets the water to a rolling boil quickly and if you've overfilled it some splashing will occur. The slow opening lid is a nice touch because you don't end up with a rush of steam attacking you upon opening it. Also it sits nicely on the base without the click in feature some other kettles have. This is a plus in my book because when a kettle clicks into it's base sometime when you pick it up the base comes with it. This will never be a problem with this kettle. Onto the things I dislike. First off no bells or whistles, literally. There is no audio indication that the kettle has finished boiling. For the $99 price tag I don't think it's too much to ask for even a little bell activated by the switch flipping to the off position at the end of it's cycle. Secondly a major reason I purchased this kettle is that it's not constructed of plastic. BPA is a major health concern these days and obviously with glass we don't have to worry about that. Breville specifically states that no parts that come in contact with water contain BPA but I'm now uncomfortable with the thought of plastic and hot water together. This shouldn't be a problem with this glass kettle except that there is a sediment filter in front of the spout made of plastic and wire mesh. I'm sure, just as advertised, this part is BPA free but we are constantly finding out new and horrific things about the safety of plastics and I'd simply rather avoid the issue all together. The filter IS removable but the directions mention numerous times that it should NOT be removed and it's required for proper kettle operation. Not being any kind of engineer I can't imagine why this is but I'd hate to find out the hard way. All in all this is a great product. The price is good, the look is great and the functionality nearly superb. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes to make tea, oatmeal or ramen regularly and quickly.

Still Awesome after 3 years
In January 2021 after our trip back to Europe I began researching electric kettles. I decided to try out the Breville model. They look to be several nice models but this one looked the very best so I decided to give it a try. I've used it several times a day for the last three years and it is never let me down. To be exact corrosion on the bottom that comes from our water being hard is easily washed away. The opening at the top is big enough so a person with normal hands can actually get their hand in and wash it if ever necessary. The screen filter is easily removed and washed and re-inserted. Glass still looks brand new as well as the inside steel is shiny silver like it's brand new. I am amazed at this kettle with all of it use that it's still fantastic compared to other models I've seen that are much newer. Overall, you may spend a little more for this one but it is not a cheap model you're buying metal and glass and it's high-quality.

Very flawed product and horrible customer service.
I have purchased this item twice and both times it quit working in less than 12 months. The second time, I tried to talk with Breville customer service and it was a horrible experience. In multiple online sources, the published Breville customer service phone number is missing a digit so it is not a valid number. After finding a real phone number, I called more than a dozen times but they do not answer. I finally scheduled a time for them to call me, and when they called, they put me on hold for 25 minutes. After I spoke with them, they agreed to replace the unit and sent me an email that stated "...your order has been placed...allow 7 to 10 business days for your order to be shipped." I waited 3 weeks and contacted them because I did not receive the replacement. After being placed on hold, I was told that their agent made a mistake and they would not replace the unit until I returned the old one. Because they had not told me that weeks earlier, I had tossed the old unit. As a result, they would not send me a replacement. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told I had to make an appointment for later in the week. I made the appointment and they did not call. This is the worst customer service ever!!!! I have liked Breville products and have their microwave oven, toaster, and food processor but I will never buy a Breville product again.

If you know what PG Tips is, stop looking and start clicking
I'm British, so I drink a lot of tea. Real tea. Builder's tea. Not the nasty Lipton stuff scraped from the warehouse floor that passes as tea in the US, and certainly not arty-farty Chinese blends that may be great for aligning the ying or the chakras or whatever it's supposed to do, but tastes like hot water. Anyone who drinks real tea knows that you need boiling water, which is not "quite hot" water or water that has been through a coffee machine, and the kettle needs to come to the boil quickly. If you drink a lot of tea the kettle is going to be out on the kitchen counter-top, and you want to know how much water is in it. Win, win, win. This boils water as quickly as any kettle will on 110V. It is a very attractive glass and steel design, as these things go, with no superfluous flourishes. The base can store some unused cable. And its being glass means you can see at a glance how full it is. My last kettle was a Seimens Porsche design model (not available in the US) and the Breville is better in every respect, including looks. I want for nothing else in the kettle, and I'm looking at this as I plan to buy another as a housewarming present. But I am moved to write in alarm at those people who want a bell. A bell? For the love of all that is holy, no! It has no bell. It just turns off. And thank Breville for that. What I need like a hole in the head is yet another thing in my kitchen that shrilly announces the completion of some task, and which cannot be silenced without pressing some (often tiny) button. I have long wondered who the people are that want this, and reading some of the reviews here, now I know. In fact, when the Breville eventually dies, I now know that I will need to scrutinize reviews carefully to find alarm-less silent kettles. One last word: I got the Amazon factory refurb and saved the $15. The kettle itself was still in the wrapper, but the box - which I immediately threw away - had some minor tears and scuffs. For a box going straight in the trash, I'll take $15.

Best Electric Kettle Available
THis is my second Breville Electric Kettle in 25 years. Used solely for boiling water as is required in the art of making tea. The water is only boiling when the kettle switches off. Many consumers switch off before the water reaches this point. Obviously not Tea drinkers. This kettle is designed for easy care with no stains on the glass or the interior stainless steel base. The Lid is pressure control so that when you depress the botton on the handle it opens at a controlled rate, no burns. Being cordless it adds to the convenience and it is so very simple to place the kettle on the base to complete the power connection. Totally reliable and the price makes it an excellent buy complete with the brand nameof Breville, maker of so many electrical appliances and a solid reputation. Buy it, you wont regret it.

Beautiful kettle with Achilles heal - the lid hinge
I have bought this kettle twice now and regret both purchases. One the first one I bought, the plastic hinge point fatigued and broke (at one of the two points)- the lid still opened and closed, but in a rickety lopsided way. Eventually, we stopped trying to open it because it was so fragile, and just filled it through the spout. After two years it stopped turning on altogether (the metal contact points in the bottom of the kettle failed). I love its aesthetic and wanted my water to boil in a plastic free environment which is not the case (heed other reviews regarding plastic in the lid), so against my better judgment with the lid issue, I purchased this kettle again because it is pretty. After only two months, the lid of our new kettle will not stay shut (as per other reviews). As soon as the water is nearing a boil, the latch let's go from the change in pressure (I guess) and the lid pops open and then the kettle does not ever shut off because it does not sense that the temperature had reached its peak boiling point. Breville is helpfully sending us a new one (through the one year warranty), but my expectation is that the replacement will likely fail somehow as well... I hope Breville can redesign the lid/hinge as it seems to be the main character of all these bad reviews.
