These taps are functional for thread clean-up and grip the material area being chased. They are easy to use with proper tapping oil and fit the standard tap holder wrenches. The price is a good value for a fast needed repair of threads and have duarbility for a couple of uses.

Did not work. I wasn't very hopeful when I couldn't get a nut of the same thread over it. The threads were so rounded on the tap that all it did was cut a bigger hole.

Bought these to chase the threads on 4 holes and on the first hole the tap stripped itself out. Wasn't even trying to cut threads just clean existing ones.

These were larger than the taps I already had from a standardized set, and accordingly, the tap wrench I already had was too small for them. So I used a crescent wrench instead. It worked, although it was very painful. I tested them out on 1018 steel. Though it isn’t the toughest alloy out there, it’s still pretty strong. I was, however, able to tap it quite successfully. That said, I don’t know how well I would be able to do anything tougher without an appropriately sized tap wrench. Now, one thing about tapping is that I usually find that it is very difficult if not impossible to tap directly into the appropriately sized hole. You either need to go into a countersink, or have a slightly larger lead in to stabilize the tap as you start cutting the threads. That is what I did here, and it did work, though getting things started was quite difficult. However, part of that came from the difficulties of using the crescent wrench instead of the tap wrench. However, self-induced difficulties aside, it seemed to cut fine; it didn’t show any signs of wear afterwards, and the threads looked nice and clean. I checked both the tap and the cut threads against a gauge, and both looked great, as shown in the included pictures. Note that on the cut threads, I made a larger bore going about halfway down to stabilize the tap, which is why the threads there are so light. Overall, these seem like fairly good taps, and very reasonably priced, so that’s an easy five stars from me.

I bought these two taps to thread aluminum extrusion for an upcoming camper van project. I tested them on aluminum and plastic, and for those materials they work well. The taps produced clean threads that accepted standard metric bolts without any issues. At around four dollars for the set, expectations should be realistic. I have no doubt that a professional machinist would find plenty of shortcomings, but I think most casual users will be satisfied with the performance. For soft materials like aluminum extrusion or plastic, they do what they’re supposed to do. That said, I wouldn’t expect these to hold up well on harder metals or heavy-duty applications. I wouldn’t use them for steel or anything requiring precision or repeated use. These are clearly intended for light, occasional jobs rather than serious shop work.
