Chicken of the Sea: Cracked Black Pepper = Best straight tuna on the market. But...
Big tuna guy here. Could eat the stuff everyday (and often do). After every workout it's 3 of the $1 Starkist pouches for just over 50 grams of protein. Really great food. Real powerhouse. So on to this. Some Bumblebee products are better than some Chicken of the Sea products and some are better than some Starkist products, and so on and so on. This brand (Chicken of the Sea) "cracked black pepper" is absolutely out of this world, taste wise. Nothing like Bumblebee's "cracked black pepper" in the pouch. As far as straight tuna, just short of something crazy expensive like FinerFin or those fancy tuna fillets (both basically steaks) you get in the jar for like $30, this is the best tasting, most enjoyable to eat tuna I've ever had. And yes, I've basically had them all (although the new Tuna Creations Spicy Korean does come close!). All that being said. The price. The less popular flavors are $10 for 6 while this is over $15. That's over 50% more. That's not cool. I'm aware of supply and demand but if it's that popular the company needs to start making more of the Cracked Black Pepper and possibly less of the other ones. So that's annoying. It's also not very large, I might add. As anyone who's ever had this product line or seen them in stores can attest to. Seems easy to eat the whole thing in maybe 2 or 3 average kitchen spoonfuls. They also occasionally change the formula for some flavors. Take my second favorite flavor/variety from this cup product line: the Thai Chili. I know this for a fact because 1-2 years ago the Thai Chili had 22g protein and tasted WAY better. Now it's distinctly more fishy and only 16g protein. It's still really good but it used to be better, is my point. So at just under $2.75/cup for this particular variety it can work out to over $1 a bite. Not sure if I can consider that a smart/worthwhile purchase. That said, it's the best tasting tuna and my personal favorite (naturally due to the cost I don't eat it often these days). Great for when you're not in the mood to prep a whole meal ie. not feeling well, it's late, your busy/no time, etc. but still want something really good to feed and lift your spirits. Hard to eat just one cup at a time (in no small part because they're so small LOL). All the flavor varieties from this line are pretty good, but again the cracked black pepper just stands apart from the rest. Perfect paired with a cup of rice or macaroni and cheese. They just need to do something about the price!! Purchased these (Chicken of the Sea: Cracked Black Pepper) cups on May 10, 2025 for $16.14 - OUCH!

Great taste
I love these! The taste is really good. I love the high protein. I had weight loss surgery and these work well for me. They are easy to open and ready to eat. I love the spork that comes in the lid. I have never had an issue with these. They aren't too oily or watery.

Best impulse buy in days
I'd never tried the Chicken of the Sea Infusions Tuna in the basil variety or any of their infusions at all but impulsively ordered a box of six last week. I had the first of the pack today and was extremely satisfied having it with fresh vegetables, cottage cheese and a sprinkling of freshly ground black pepper. I emptied the entire container of very large chunks of skipjack including the olive oil/basil infusion and needed to add no dressing to the meal. The basil flavor was not overpowering and surprisingly fresh in taste on the palate, unlike some basil concoctions these days. I decided to add no acid-like balsamic vinegar or lemon juice because I wanted to get the true effect of the product. It needed nothing more. The fish was not strong in flavor and it was moist in texture but not overly oily. For a single serving, this is perfect. I sometimes hesitate to open a can of tuna because I know it will have to be consumed within a couple of days. With this one, there is no forecasting to consider, you open it, eat it and you're done. The spork in the lid interior is a nice addition which can be used when you consume the tuna or saved for a later picnic. EDIT several months later. I've turned a lot of people on to the Tuna Infusions and we have a general consensus after purchasing dozens of these boxes in assorted varieties. The lemon variety is awful. Toddlers liked it for the first couple of bites and then stopped eating while the adults hated it. The taste is just fake and overpowering, period. The Thai flavor is especially good when added to a rice or grain meal with some added cruciferous vegetables. The smoked style was almost as bad as the lemon tuna, and was only purchased once. The basil tuna was a tie with the Thai style because it was good with grains or rice and also delicious on a salad with parmesan cheese and a little lemon or vinegar. These are easy to transport, eat, enjoy, and the containers are recyclable. Don't forget to rinse out before placing it in the bin.
