Digital Design and Computer Architecture: ARM Edition

It was over 30 years ago that I first took a course in computer architecture. I didn't end up working in the hardware field but recently given what Apple has done with the ARM technology I decided to think about working on hardware again. I also had some training in CMOS so I just needed an up-to-date textbook in each subject. This one is an awesome textbook. It covers everything from A to Z in modern computer architecture from the RISC perspective, using ARM as the real-world model. I'm (re-)learning so much. Totally recommending this.

The best book on Digital Design/Computer Architecture! Used this book as a supplement to the Computer Organization and Design textbook required for my class and I was finally able to understand concepts and get my project working in Verilog. I highly recommend either the ARM or MIPS edition as appropriate to your class/project.

This is a very well written book. The wording understandable, but doesn't lose its accuracy or "dumb down" the subject. It covers all the bases needed for some pretty decent digital design (all the way up to a simple MIPS processor). Informative and thought-provoking problems at the end that really tested the knowledge of the subjects. Would recommend for anybody who is new to the subject but wants a good introduction!

I have read technical text books for years. This book would rank among the best of them. The authors have great sense of humor on top of providing great lessons on a technical subject. Thank you very much from a 60+ years old engineer.

Ordered on Friday, received it Monday. Listed as Used-Very Good, I would say it's Used-Like New.

I took a digital design class and hated the book. The material is dry in nature, so there's not much you can do to make an enticing design/architecture book. I'm in computer architecture now, and my school is using this book for the first time. I freaking love it. Something about it makes me want to read the whole thing. The art really takes away any intimidation, and the lessons are very concise. Some might feel that there is not enough info in here, but I say "that's what teachers are for!" Anyways, water spilled on my copy and I almost cried. I think I'm going to keep it forever.

Very detailed overview of building a microprocessor both in the theoretical sense and practical implementation using HDL. It takes you through designing a simplified ARMv4 CPU that performs several common instructions.

This seems to be a pirated edition. It doesn't have the publisher (Kaufman) against it and any positive feedback refers to another Kindle page which appears to be the official version (at a much higher cost). This is an example of a 'figure' in the book. Essentially it is missing, looks like somebody's notes to actually create one in the future. Hopefully Amazon will remove this.
