Updated version of my previous opal, which bit the dust when I took the filter off and let something pass thru the tubing. I love that it tells you when to sanitize and descale so you don’t forget! Makes the perfect ice. I used my side tank from my previous machine. Ease of use - Super easy to clean, follow the manual. The level of noise is mostly low. Considering how much ice I use it is an exceptional value!

After hyping this thing up for years I finally decided I needed it. Well this thing is absolutely overrated and overpriced. Requires way too much maintenance with the ice just to keep it from clumping and even then it still clumps. I’ve tried it all. While the ice is great, it’s just a hassle and not worth it. I would value this at $250 max with no special. I bought this on Amazon prime day for $399, they dropped it to $350 a week later and did not refund difference. I don’t recommend this product. It also does not produce the amount of ice that it claims.

We’ve had the Opal ice maker for a while now and it has been great. The nugget ice is exactly what we wanted—soft, chewable, and perfect for drinks. It makes ice quickly and keeps up really well for everyday use and when we have people over. One feature I really appreciate is that the machine tells you when it’s time to clean it. That takes the guesswork out of maintenance and helps keep everything running smoothly. The cleaning process is simple and straightforward. Overall it’s been reliable, easy to use, and produces excellent ice. If you like nugget ice, this machine is definitely worth it.

I really love GE Opal nugget ice maker. The ice is small and crunchy. I don’t really pay attention to the noise. I have an autistic child so my noise tolerance is amazingly not noticeable. Iykyk. This is my second unit. The first one I did not know to use Distilled water so I am doing a lot of descaling and cleaning. This new unit though seems like I am sanitizing and descaling every week, which seems like a lot, but I don’t mind if it will keep the unit up and working for a long time. We are really pushing this machine though with a household of six people and it’s keeping up with the ice demand.

I love this ice maker. This is the newer model and it does have some better features but the fan is SOOOO loud after getting out ice. It makes ice fast so the fan isn’t on a super long time but it is louder than my fridge when it is on. The old version is not like that at all.

Love this icemaker! Quite a process to get it cleaned and ready to use but I understand why. Just realize that you will not remove it from the box and immediately begin making ice. Speaking of removing from the box...it is very well packed! Lucky you if you are young and strong or have a person in your home who is strong. I am an 80 year old woman slightly over 5 feet so it took a while to unpack! All of the effort involved in getting this machine ready to start producing has been worth it. Adhere to manufacture's suggestion to use only distilled water. A note regarding the noise some people have complained about...not my experience! Very quiet.

No stars! It’s a beautiful machine, and the ice is nice, but the banshee screaming noises that it makes are intolerable! I’m on machine number two after returning the first one for the same problem, and both of them have experienced this loud, squealing noise from the very first batch of ice being produced. Gave the first one several days to see if it would work itself out, but it never did. Arranged to return, and now the second one is indicating that it’s going to be having the same awful noise problem.

The ice this makes is incredible. Soft, chewable, and quickly cools drinks. This machine starts making ice in 15 minutes and maintains producing large volume of ice all day. I do recommend the side tank as the reservoir in the core unit will limit ice production over the speed of the machine. I STRONGLY recommend using ONLY DISTILLED WATER in the machine. If you have any minerals in your water it will build up in the machine quickly. It’s a pain to descale these machines so best to avoid it - use only distilled water! The stainless steel looks good and is durable. We haven’t experienced noticeable scratching. While the metal scoop looks good, we prefer the older clear plastic. It’s noticeably lighter to handle. The machine makes about 54 db at 3’ distance. So quiet but noticeable if low hums bother you. This is remediated given how quickly is makes ice thereby turning off and being silent. This is an excellent soft ice maker.
