Award-winning artist Jon J Muth retells the favorite tale of a selfish community who is tricked into creating a delicious soup from stones. Set in China in Muth's hauntingly beautiful watercolors. Three strangers, hungry and tired, pass through a war-torn village. Embittered and suspicious from the war, the people hide their food and close their windows tight. That is, until the clever strangers suggest making a soup from stones. Intrigued by the idea, everyone brings what they have until-- together, they have made a feast fit for a king! In this inspiring story about the strength people possess when they work together, Muth takes a simple, beloved tale and adds his own fresh twist. Review: EVERY YOUNG KID NEEDS THIS IN THEIR LIBRARY! - I bought the hard-cover edition of this book. The theme has to do with sharing, community, and adding one's own contribution for the good of all. This is an older, classic children's book that most elementary teachers have read to their class. Also, it fits in with the multi-cultural library. Wonderful illustrations. Highly recommended! As a retired teacher, I'd recommend from ages 6 through 9, depending on their reading level. This would be a good read-aloud to have kids discuss the main idea(s). Review: Beautiful story for children - This rendition of Stone soup is done in a beautiful manner with beautiful music very calming very sweet. My six-year-old granddaughter loves it. What a wonderful story to teach you the value of community!

My favorite book growing up. Shipped in great condition. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to build a story collection for their child of any age. I read this particular book to my son at least once a month until he was roughly 10yrs.

Got delivered to a neighbor and made her night. Worked its magic already bringing us together.
Such a great book!! My son was so excited about sharing this story. It was accidentally delivered to an older lady neighbor and boy did she love to hear my sonโs excitement about the book and read it with her. Who would have thought the book worked before we even made stone soup.
