'It would be unfair to expect other people to be as remarkable as oneself' Wilde's celebrated witticisms on the dangers of sincerity, duplicitous biographers, the stupidity of the English - and his own genius. One of 46 new books in the bestselling Little Black Classics series, to celebrate the first ever Penguin Classic in 1946. Each book gives readers a taste of the Classics' huge range and diversity, with works from around the world and across the centuries - including fables, decadence, heartbreak, tall tales, satire, ghosts, battles and elephants. Review: Worth reading for quote lovers - Bought this book randomly without any expectations, and it turned out to be a good, thoughtful read. It’s not just Oscar Wilde’s quotes- the book includes a mix of quotes from different authors, which makes it more interesting and diverse. Review: A Penguine must have for your coffee table. - Gone through a couple of pages and seems a decent read so far. And I would like to judge a book by it's cover if the design is so elegant.

A Brilliant Beginning: My First Book and Oscar Wilde’s Timeless Wit
Completing The Dull People Are Brilliant at Breakfast as my first-ever finished book has been a special experience. Reading Oscar Wilde’s work opened a new doorway for me—not just into literature, but into a deeper understanding of life, society, and the way we think. Wilde’s writing is sharp, humorous, and painfully honest. Every line carries a mix of elegance and truth that makes you stop, smile, and reflect. What impressed me the most was how effortlessly he exposes the absurdities of society while teaching us subtle lessons about human nature, self-awareness, and the importance of thinking beyond the obvious. This book made me realise that intelligence doesn’t always show itself loudly. Sometimes the most insightful thoughts come during the simplest moments—like a quiet breakfast or an ordinary conversation. Wilde has a unique way of turning everyday situations into mirrors that reveal who we are and who we pretend to be. As someone who has just begun their reading journey, this book gave me confidence and curiosity. It pulled me in with its wit, kept me thinking long after each chapter, and left me wanting to explore more of Wilde’s brilliance. I now understand why Oscar Wilde is celebrated not just as a writer, but as an observer of life. Overall, The Dull People Are Brilliant at Breakfast is clever, thought-provoking, and strangely comforting. It teaches you to question society politely, laugh at yourself gracefully, and think a little differently about the world around you. A remarkable book—and a memorable first step in my reading journey.

Amazing little book
Amazing little book!! I bought this one not knowing it was more of a quote book but that's more on me then amazon. I love Oscar Wildes writing in The Picture of Dorian Gray. HIghly recommend if you love some witty humor

Penguin does it again
I love Penguin, I always know I can expect quality with their products. The book came in great condition. It is small, and I know it is part of the "Little Black Classics" but even that distinction may not prepare you for how small it is. However, for me, this was not an issue. The text is easy to see and read, and this is not a novel, this is more a collection of aphorisms, and in my opinion, a very nice collections of aphorisms. Some are funny and witty, clever and reek of sarcasm, and some are potentially more jarring to the reader, prompting more self-discovery and philosophical thinking. Wilde was a controversial figure in his own time, and I believe a reader will see that upon reading this book. If I may make a recommendation - If you like this, whether because you like Wilde's style of writing, his ability to be witty and deep, sarcastic and genuine simultaneously, perhaps you like challenging views about spirituality, the morality of man, or the gritty reality of life, or maybe you are looking for another collections of aphorisms to grace your coffee table as a conversation piece or quick read - then I would recommend "Aphorisms" by Franz Kafka. There are many different publishers that have collected his aphorisms, but when it comes to Kafka, I always recommend Schocken as a publisher. It isn't his best work, but if you can find an affordable copy, I believe it is worth a read.
