This watch, as noted in other reviews, is a good price and attractive. I am new to pocket watches, but this one is functional, not just decorative. First of all, in case you, like me, are new to pocket watches, you press down on the top tab to open. You adjust the time with the dial just below the top button. You pull up on the dial to stop the watch movement, and push down to engage movement, much like a regular watch. But also, like some watches, it came with a plastic tab restricting any chance of the battery engaging before the customer receives the watch and removes the tab. At first, I thought I would have to install the battery, as it arrives with an extra battery. There are no instructions. I was fuming over this, when I went to read reviews and see if anyone knew how to install the battery. Apparently, no one did. But I found out it comes with an extra battery. So there is a battery installed already. I then looked online for how to generally install a battery in a pocket watch, in case I need to install the extra battery at some point. I found a video that showed someone using his fingernail to pry off the back. I'll bet I would need a tiny screwdriver, though, because it didn't work for me. Then inside on his watch was a plastic frame he removed, stating that you need to be careful of the drive mechanism when you remove that and put it back. Then under the frame was the battery, which he removed and replaced. Then he replaced the plastic frame, again warning that you have to be careful of the drive mechanism. Then he snapped the back part back on. Apparently, it can be done. I don't know how similar this watch is. Like I said, my fingernail did not get the back off. But this watch does come with the battery installed. It works. Now, as for attractiveness, the watch is a nice design. it comes with a neck chain that can be removed. Other reviews state the neck chain is not high quality and you may want to replace it. That's no doubt true, if you want a necklace, but I only want a pocket watch. I probably will not use it as a necklace, just keep it in my purse. It is a good gift. Mine came in a nice velvet-lined gift box that snaps open at the front. However, if you are going to give this as a gift, make sure you tell the recipient that the battery in the box is an extra one, it has a battery, and to remove the tiny plastic tab at the top to use the pocket watch out of the box to tell time. My advice to the manufacturer would be to include basic instructions. That would be helpful, and you might get fewer reviews complaining that the watch doesn't tell time. Mine did. I just had to find the tab and remove it at the top.

Preliminary 4 star review. Only received this item yesterday; just opened it today. First off, let me preface by saying I purchased this necklace purely as a decorative jewelry piece. The look and feel of it is consistent and the etching/design is very pretty, compliments my style. I am happy with it and can't wait to wear it. It's not too heavy and feels comfortable so far. I haven't had it long enough to speak to the battery life or value for money, but I'll update my review over time. A few notes: like other reviewers, I made the assumption when opening the package of thinking the battery pack included in the box was for me to install rather than an extra one supplied to me as a courtesy. I appreciate the extra battery. **Future note to other buyers: this is an extra battery, you don't need to install your own for first time use** Secondly, I've read others commenting about not realizing there's a plastic tab in the top button(aka the crown), or hardships with setting the time - these are simple things to do, but I do recommend taking care. The plastic tab is easy to remove, just grip it with your nails and slide it out. To set the time, pull the crown completely upwards after you've removed the plastic tab, don't yank it though. You'll see the clock hands stop moving. Turn the clock hands CLOCKWISE, not counterclockwise, to set the time. Push the crown back down until it snaps into place and the hands start moving again. I recommend setting the minute hand one minute ahead of the current time because my watch popped backwards by one minute when the time resumed but it is remaining accurate for me.

My grandson's girlfriend was very happy with this gift. She collects pocket watches and this was a change as it's also a necklace. Very beautiful piece.

Super nice pocketwatch

So I just received 2 of these. I had tried a different brand but those did not work for me. I think these should work just fine. They come with a small plastic tap holding up the little knob on top - pulling this and pushing the knob down will start the watch otherwise there is no drain on the internal battery - which is good. Both of them came with an extra battery so if the first one goes dead I have one to replace it with and know which battery it takes. I threw 3 of the other brand away because they died within months. These should not do that. Also have a nice little pouch to keep the watches in. I use these in several older car's I have to be able to see the time easily - looking forward to not replacing them every year!

It does not stay closed

It is really quite beautiful, BUT changing the battery (which is tiny) requires a t8ny flathead (like eyeglass screwdrivers) and strength, and skill. That is where they lost me.

This watch necklace is incredibly beautiful! I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the dark blue velvet draw-string pouch and took out this watch. I could not believe that this was the inexpensive watch I purchased. The workmanship is excellent. The cut-out design is well-crafted and beautiful. It is easy to open with a touch of the button on top and the numbers are large and clear--easy to see with just a glance. No need to bring the watch closer to your eyes. It came with a plastic tab on the stem that kept the battery from running down. As soon as I removed the tab it began to work. It was simple to set the time by just pulling out the stem and turning it. It has kept excellent time. There was an extra battery included in the pouch, too. I actually ordered 2 of these--the Hollow Rose Flowers in silver and the Antique Bronze Rose/Butterfly. The price was so reasonable and the designs so exquisite I just couldn't decide which one to buy. So I bought both. And I'm so glad I did! The silver watch is a shiny, bright silver on a silver chain. The antique bronze has more of a matte finish with subtle black shading on a bronze chain. I really can't decide which one I like better! They are both beautiful!! I may have to get one of the other designs. Or maybe get some for my granddaughters. I will definitely be looking at more items from this manufacturer!
