Basic Vocabulary in Use: 60 Units of Vocabulary Practice in North American English With Answers

This is very useful for English beginners.

Good progression for true beginners. I teach refugees w/zero English, and after you get through the alphabet and have them using some English, then you can pick this up and begin using it. It starts appropriately w/ short words: go, have, do, come, etc. Obviously zero speakers are not going to be able to do the exercises, but it gives you a good starting point w/ words to start using and making sentences.

I teach English as a Second Langage and this series ( especially the Basic and Internediate Grammar in Use) are excellent resources for the classroom, or to use at home alone.

The layout is great and the groupings of vocabulary are great. This is not good for self-study because the English in the descriptions and instructions is too advanced for someone that is learning the basic vocabulary that the book contains.

I bought this for a person who was learning English as a second language. My linguists in Afghanistan; it really help them acquire a better grasp in English. Very useful.
