Would this be good to purée baby food? I’ll be weaning soon

It's more designed for chopping not pureed food in my view. A blender or blender stick would be more suitable I think for your needs.

Does the 500ml version ofv this cut up a large onion in one go or should I get the bigger version?

I have the 900ml version and haven't tried a large onion withough cutting it at least in half first. It might do it but as the blades need to spin fast to chop putting something that big in will stop them spinning easily so I always just peel and quarter an onion before putting it in to chop

is this dish washer safe?

I tried dish washer once. The top fills with water from where the string is pulled. That will be a long term problem and erode the strength and potentially break the string. I find it very easy to give a quick rinse under the tap once used, takes under a minute to clean it.

Can you use this to blend cooked vegetables and lentils as a soup?

I have never used it for that purpose as its capacity is not large enough. I use it mainly to chop herbs, onions, garlic, tomatoes etc
