This radio has a learning curve for setup. But once you figure it out it’s a great unit to have. I use mine as a backup to my issued duty radio. However with most agencies now using P-25 1&2 this radio won’t work. With the long antenna I was able to hit far away repeaters and talk to people in Tucson, Phoenix and Yuma on analog. Still figuring out the digital side with help from my club. Battery life is between 18 and 72 hours depending on whether you transmit on high power or not.

Works as it should. Allows for loud and clear communication while on the trail. Was pleasantly surprised when it was delivered with an upgraded higher capacity battery pack.

As a new radio ham op, I started with the basics. Then I worked my way up to DMR which my radios did not have any digital capability and I had some frequencies including local repeater that uses DMR. I settled with the MD-U390. I was warned that I am entering a whole new world within amateur radio. I am so happy I started with this radio because I was able to easily research, program my own codeplug and learned alot about the modes DMR uses. Heads up. Finding a firmware update for this was hard to find. I was able to find both the CPS and update but a month later I am not able to find it anymore. The CPS is good but there is other better alternative codeplug editors available ( and more easily obtained ). Edit: 9/6/2024 - I had some time to finally use this radio more and started writing codeplugs. I have to say the radio itself is not at all great. Apparently, there is a new chip compared to the older models that is more generic and breaks easily. I have an unusable MD-UV390 Plus because 1) finding firmware for it is not available from any of the vendor sites 2) and a simple updating of the firmware will break something and leave your radio bricked. Dropping my rating to 1 star. I will be writing a blog about it to warn others to stay away from these radios.

Right now i'm ready to send it back. I can't get it to work. No code plug in the radio, So far it is just sitting not working 90 some dollars spent for nothing.. The radio not working had nothing to do with the radio, the radio works fine it is I need a device driver. I ordered another radio but still need a device driver. not sending this one back.

Has awesome audio and very capable.

I've been using DStar since the beginning. I finally made the transition to DMR. It's a steep learning curve. This radio needs the CPS to program. The user manual is useless. So far great audio. Solid construction. Wish there was alternative ways to charge the battery. Update: Any manufactor support is non-existent!! Need to change/update the firmware to the CSV version. Can't find it. Can't get ahold of anyone knowing anything. The Plus model limits the change to other firmwares.

When I, first received this I was not so happy with the original firmware. After searching online finding a comparable firmware much more user friendly. Once I installed that this became my go-to HT. Purchased an additional battery just in case. Extremely happy, I suggest anybody who's just getting into it and getting into digital HT for the cost I would definitely suggest this. 10 watts is the way to go. Performance works well sitting in my backyard using it right now.

buen audio con el nuevo vocoder. Aunque por un poco más de dinero se puede obtener la versión que tiene GPS este en general muy bueno para trabajar con los repetidores locales y el Hotspot en casa.

Sinceramente eu esperava o rádio para depois de terça-feira! No entanto chegou hoje dia 28 de fevereiro! O rádio é muito bonito robusto o preço é excelente apesar da taxa de importação ainda continua um ótimo preço! Eu já programei duas canaletas digitais super fácil não tive dificuldades porque eu já tinha um MD 380! Ele tem muitos recursos eu ainda chego lá mas eu recomendo é um super rádio muito bonito também! Ah também o som é impressionante! Foi muito rápido a entrega pois estava programado para depois do dia 6 de março! Eu achei que na escolha também o GPS era opcional mas já veio com o GPS!
