Homeopathy is an approach to medicine based on the principle that nay substance that can cause illness can also be a cure. Centuries old, its practice has always enjoyed wide popularity among individuals looking for safe and effective ways to treat illness as well as to improve their health. The Complete Homeopathy Handbook is the definitive guide for using homeopathic remedies at home. It includes A-to-Z listings for external and internal remedies, with explanations for correctly diagnosing the symptoms of any particular injury or illness. The book also includes ten case studies and specific dos and don'ts to follow when treating more than seventy conditions. Review: Easy to read, comprehensive yet well organzied information. - I wanted to learn more about homeopathy and dig a little deeper into the subject matter. This is a fantastic book that is so easy to read (I actually could not put it down!), well organized and yet very comprehensive. I highly recommend it if you are new to the subject and want to learn more. In the intro, it gives a quick overview on how the book is organized and how to use it, so you know exactly how to go about it. This is knowledge that everyone should have, regardless if you are going all the way to natural remedies or just the occasional relief for minor health issues. At least you will know that you have options. Review: A good book for your Homeopathic library - I had trouble deciding between this book and Asa Hershoff's "Homeopathic Remedies" I ended up buying both and they are both good books on Homeopathy to have in your library. They each offer some basic information on Homeopathy as an introduction and each adds some information the other book does not contain. The beginning of this book discusses some good information on homeopathy to help understand what it is all about so you have a good understanding of it. After the introductory information, the book is laid out like a Materia Medica listing both External (cremes, ointments, etc.) and Internal remedies. There is also included some interesting information on where the remedy comes from and how it is made. The Materia Medica portion is fairly extensive although I still use my actual Materia Medica book for more information if needed. The Materia Medica portion is followed by a repertory guide of symptoms and modalities to help find the correct remedy. The book discusses how to prescribe and use dosage in giving a remedy including a small chart about dosage in the beginning of her book.. Castro's book provides a sample repertorising chart with some sample cases to help one learn how to take a case and find the correct remedy. This is very valuable in helping one chart out symptoms, complaints and modalities to help pin point the correct remedy. Overall, I really like the way this book is laid out. The Hershoff book is laid out by ailment and a list of six main remedies for each ailment with a small Materia Medica description to narrow the remedy selection down.

Excellent reference book for anyone
This review is long overdue. I bought this book back in 2012 and it has been my go to book ever since whenever I need a homeopathic remedy for myself or my family. It includes a brief history of Homeopathy, its principles and concepts, myths and misapprehensions, taking the case, prescribing, and the external and internal Materia Medicas and Repertories. The Materia Medicas list all the remedies, what they are made of, the general symptoms, and physical complaints. The Repertories are a list of ailments/complaints in alphabetical order and a recommendation of remedies according to each ailment. It also has a section where she discusses the diseases that can be treated using this book with notes on what to do, what not to do, and when to seek help. One thing that I suggest when taking a case is to use the case taking questionnaire and symptom checklist and to make a copy of the repertorising chart on page 230 and use it with every case. This helps a lot when narrowing down on a remedy. There are 10 sample cases and from Case 3 onwards, she uses the repertorising chart. I love this book, it is well organized, very informative, easy to follow, and includes enough information without it being overwhelming. I recommend it for anyone looking to use homeopathy for minor ailments as a natural and safe alternative to conventional medicine.

Great First Book
I absolutely love this book. It was the first homeopathic book I got and still the one I go to the most. I do wish the index was in the very back of the book, it is tucked near the end and sometimes takes time to find when I am in a hurry, but otherwise I have no complaints. I read it from cover to cover when I first got it, which helped me a lot. It starts with a brief history of homeopathy, which I think is important for someone like me who was new homeopathy. Then it gets into the remedies. It gives a brief description of the remedy and what it is derived from, then it gives general physical and mental picutures of the rememdy. Then, what I find most helpful, is it gives brief descriptions of each remedies use for common ailements it treats. I am not always successful at finding the correct remedy, because sometimes remedies are similar, but this book helps simplify things for me a lot. And I have had enough successes, some very dramatic, to keep me motivated to keep learning.

Not for beginners at all
NOT for the beginner! I have been using homeopathy for 45 years and I had a hard time with this book. There is a lot of information for sure. It's just not user friendly. Most people look up symptoms and then get the corresponding meds. That list is somewhere in the middle of the book and the meds are only spelled out with one or two letters so if you're not familiar with homeopathic meds, it will be pretty much impossible to figure out. I will keep it because I can use it to do more in-depth research on some ailments/meds.

Great thorough guide
This is a great book to have for reference at home. The author does a great job explaining homeopathy so that it is understandable. The book has a nice materia medica section that describes many common remedies and indicators for their use. Also how to choose potency and dosages. There are sections on external and internal repertory, a quick reference to see what remedy matches a complaint and symptoms. What ailments can be treated at home and what things are more intricate, benefiting from consulting with an experienced homeopath. Examples for how to take a case and make notes to find the matching remedy. Nice glossary. Detailed index. Glad I got this one!

Perfect for beginners
I've had this book for over a month now. It gives you a history on Homeopathy and it tells you when to use a remedy and how to use a remedy. It explains a lot of things that as a beginner who is using homeopathic remedies, would like to know and need to know. There's also a dosing chart and it is helpful when you need to use remedies. I like that you can go through each remedy and see the different uses for that particular remedy. It gives you a really good explanation of the symptoms so that you can make the best decision for the remedy that you need to use. As a beginner myself, I have found this book to be very helpful.

The BEST Homeopathy Resource for Lay Use Out There
This is hands down the best resource out there for understanding and using homeopathy. I look at it almost every day as I'm learning more, and consult it anytime we need an acute remedy. It's easy to use, laid out nicely and has some beautiful illustrations. Not only will you learn how to use homeopathy, you'll learn some history behind how it was developed, information about proper dosing and find the confidence to use it with your own family. Even my 2nd grader is enjoying it and studying on his own for part of our homeschool Science curriculum. This is a MUST have, in my opinion. I have given away many copies to friends learning about Homeopathy and suggested it often.

Fabulous Directory of Homeopathy
This book is amazing! I'm a complete newcomer to homeopathy and ordered (and read!) this book before I went for my first consultation with a homeopath. I was delighted to see that she also uses it amongst her reference books when treating her patients - it had pride of place on her desk. I've since lent it to family and friends, and they are now in the process of visiting homeopaths on a regular basis. It's beautifully simple to understand and an interesting read from the outset.
