I live in a humid area, don't run the air conditioner much, and have become concerned about mold and spoilage in long-term stored food items and medications, such as tea, flour, and supplements. I was also concerned about corrosion in certain stored non-food items. Over time, I have accumulated many silica-gel packets from various purchases and have used them to store electronics and other non-food items that might be damaged by humidity. However, I didn't feel comfortable using packets of unknown chemicals, often from foreign countries, with food and medicinal items. I bought this product for two reasons: it is food-grade, and the packets can be reused after being dehydrated in the oven or otherwise. They solve the problem of hydrophilic items such as nutritional supplements and powdered foods like flour, spices, and seasonings clumping together and possibly decomposing or molding. I also appreciate the peace of mind that comes from knowing a product I use with food and medications is suitable for that purpose. I'm certainly not concerned that I might accidentally eat a silica-gel packet, but if one were to leak or become damaged without my knowledge, I would much rather have a food-grade desiccant packet in contact with my food than one containing an unknown substance.
